"First series" Beretta 92 aka "step-slide" made 1975-1977. They quickly removed the step and the later models in this time period looked the same as this but the simpler slide design. The 92XI and 92GTS are spiritual successors to this design.

Exactly. It's a psychosomatic/repressed/psychological/just-plain-psycho thing with me. As a young duckling, Mom thought that it would be sweet that her eldest boy (ahem, me) learn how to play the violin. I wanted the trumpet. Naturally I lost, and Mom got to fulfill some unrequited fantasy through her son for a couple of years. But the orchestra had enough violin players so I got handed a viola instead. Still not a trumpet, like my best friend got to play. Oh, the shame of it all! The trauma and emotion scarring of that experience survives to this day. :sad, very sad: 'Voila' has no meaning for me; I ain't French. Spelling it and even saying it the other way is my coping mechanism. Like a Looney Toons dialog, sufferin' succotash, dag nab it! And that's my story and I'ma stickin' to it. VIOLA! -MG
