I just went through the fun & games of an emergency appendectomy. Since up to now I’ve been carrying appendix - style. Anyone go through something similar - did you switch up carry styles?

A butt down shoulder holster with an S&W Airweight or a Colt Cobra.

After hernia surgery, I switched over to pocket carrying my P938. Works for now. The hernia was right where my appendix carry holster was rubbing. Good luck. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." looking forward to 4 years of TRUMP!

After mine I mostly pocket carry now. "I, however, place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared." Thomas Jefferson

I did what Malysh did. I had a Kydex guy retro fit an old leather shoulder rig with a but down Kydex for my 225. Very comfortable, and I'm in the heat here in FLA. Don't. drink & drive, don't even putt.

Pocket carry would be my first guess, given your location & a shoulder rig not being too viable in the summer. Otherwise, maybe IWB around 4:00, if the belt pressure doesn't cause discomfort. The Enemy's gate is down.

I had hernia surgery three months ago. Pocket carried a Glock 42 for about the first month. Baggy shorts, a loose belt to keep everything up, and a couple extra mags in the other pocket. Worked fine, but I’m glad I didn’t need it. I can’t imagine having to try to hide a shoulder holster in the summer, but then again, it’s probably easier than I’d guess since I’ve never done it in the first place. ______________________________________________ Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

You should have told them to put a zipper in the cut and you could have been none more tactical AIWB! J/K obviously, glad you are ok. I would consider a pocket holster in a slash or maybe better yet, a cargo pocket.

Seems like pocket carry would make the most sense or ankle for the time being. Or …….. maybe a rifle slung over your back. Either or. ![]() Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Depending on the incisions and how tender everything may be, I could see ankle carry being more problems than it’s worth. I wasn’t bending over for any reason the first week or so. Then again, I wasn’t leaving the house, either. ______________________________________________ Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

Yeah I thought about that after posting. I really wouldn’t want any kind of tight belt so either shoulder like mentioned or light weight pocket carry. I, personally, lean more towards pocket carry as I am not set up for shoulder at all, have never done it and pocketing a J-Frame esque thing is trivial. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Yeah, lightweight is key. That much, I can attest to. The first few times I wore a belt, I regretted it. I didn’t even get it very tight, just having that little bit of added pressure really didn’t feel great. Pocket carry with a really lightweight gun and loose fitting cargo shorts is probably the way to go. I found it tolerable, at least. Hope you heal up quick and easy, Bcj. ______________________________________________ Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.

Granted I did not carry appendix and always pretty much carried IWB at 4:00. I continued to carry that way as soon as I got out of the hospital after my appendectomy. I had 1 incision in my belly button and 2 above it. I had no issue wearing my normal belt and holster setup. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I have a surgical scar that runs around the front of my waist from hipbone to hipbone. I usually carry IWB, but it has been irritated so I switched to OWB for the duration. Is that an option?

My preference has been to carry on my right hip/"3:00 carry". It also depends on what I'm carrying and the clothing choice but for the most part, I try to keep it the same. This way the belt does the work for me.

Yes it does. I’m realizing my owb options are limited for my current carry guns. I’ve been doing AIWB for a while. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bcjwriter,
