I saw a rumor that Sig, in the face of P320 "unintendeds" was going to make them only for military M17/18 contracts. That they were going to make a larger version of the P365 for commercial sales, call it the P385. Anything to that?

I find that highly doubtful. There may be an updated design or next generation at some point, but the purpose wouldn't be to "make it larger". Because they already have larger P365s with full length slides/grips and 17-21+ round capacity, like the XMacro and Fuse. There would be no need (and no market) for an even larger version of the P365, unless they were going to scale it up slightly overall to handle 10mm or .45 ACP, of which the chances are also very slim.

Yeah, the P365 has already morphed into a full size gun. Making it “larger”? There’s no point to it. Q

Sig Sauer needs a new duty pistol. Warranted or not, their premier duty P320 is never going to fully recover from the bad press over the past few years. Supersizing current P365s into a duty weapon is a recipe for disaster Sig cannot afford. Coming up with a new design that takes some of the best features of the P365 combined with some design changes that would beef up and substantially increase the durability would be intriguing. Totally agree. Detail stripping a P320 FCU is easy. Detail stripping a P365 FCU? Not easy. The P365 is great at being the tiny gun it was designed to be. It was never designed to be a full size gun. Proverbs 28:1

We'll probably see the P385 sometime in December. It will be a likely scaled up and strengthened P365 FCU with a tabbed trigger safety running on P320 magazines. Unknown what the grip module will look like.

Knowing Sig, they will completely blow it by requiring any new ground up design fit into a existing P365/P320 chassis. Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell

From the SF thread above Link https://www.rifleconfigurator....ol?tID=65f49a11aab9b Looks like they are making a P385 pistol, it will use P320 mags which is good. Imagine Sig will be working the P320 out of the production line and into the new P385 to quell the rumors and issues with that line.
|
| come and take it |
Using 320 mags is smart. I imagine they will keep making 320s only to fulfill existing govt contracts. I will bet the P385 has a lukewarm civilian launch, but I'm interested to see what's improved. "The left can't applaud me because their hands are in other people's pockets." - Javier Milei

It is smart. I always liked the P320 magazines. I have more than a few. I would like to see the new design lose some of the complexity. I also hope the company realizes that people will pay a little extra for high-quality parts made entirely in-house. Larger calibers than 9mm

^^^ That makes sense. Larger-than-9 pistols wouldn't be a priority in today's market, but that definitely seems like a ceiling on what can be done with the 365.
Why would SIG make a point of putting a tabbed trigger on a new pistol line at this juncture?

Someone mentioned that maybe SIG will manufacture this new model in “other calibers” other than the P365 calibers of 9mm or 380. I know I may be pissing in front of a fan but maybe, just maybe, SIG will offer this model in a 40/357Sig model.

I've heard rumor of the 385 too. Basically a beefed up 365 FCU and modular components - possibly compatible with older 320 parts. But whop knows, it could all be bogus.

No P320s evidently “uncommanded” this time: https://www.police1.com/firear...nside-subway-station And therefore of course worthy of no fevered attention. “Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.” — Plato
