I’m new to the 1911 world. Recently picked up a Kimber. Other than tripping the slide catch it’s been running well.

Are there known crap mags I should avoid, Pro Mags if you will?

Besides Pro-Mag, Triple-K and USA Mags have a less than stellar reputation (if they are still in business).

As much as I HATE regurgitating Internet lore…
I’ve heard the Wilson mags for 10mm are less than stellar. Ive read it more than once, but I still find it hard to believe because their 45 mags have made non-running guns sing like a sewing machine for me.

My Tripp mags work great in my 1911/10

I’d avoid the usual offenders as mentioned above though… pro mag, USAmags…..

lol oddly enough one of the mags I’ve had that was a stinker for me and I threw away was a Kimber mag. (though 45)

My only 10 mm mags are checkmates, and I’ve had no problems but clearly far far lower volume shooting them my many 45s

Depends on when your Kimber was made.

I had to have one when they first came out. Bad idea. Took a while to get it going.

A buddy of mine got one a few years later, it works with any mag he tries.

Yeah that's weird to hear. I've got lots of Wilson .40 mags that work perfectly in .40 and .357sig.

Wilson’s were no good in my Cbob. Trips were good and so were the Dan Wesson ones that came with it.

MecGar and Colt always did fine for me.

I have Wilsons and CMCs for my Razorback, and they all work fine.

I’ve read of the Wilson problem, which prompted this post.

So far Metalform, and a couple SIG mags have been trouble free. Getting an assortment to verify with different loadings.

I should add that I also have had no issues with Metalform and SIG mags in .40 (same cartridge diameter at least!), in addition to the Wilsons.

Never tried CMC in anything other than .45, though. And I don't even have a .45 1911 anymore.

My Delta has no issues with Wilson, Metalform or Tripp Research.

I have had intermittent FTF issues with 10mm Wilson mags, which is a real disappointment to me as I had heard nothing but good things about their mags. I've isolated the problem to these mags and S&B 180gr FMJ which I was using for range ammo. It has a rather squared off bullet design.
