Today I picked-up this used 226 in a local Pawn Shop for $465 OTD. It didn't have a mag with it, but another shop I frequent had some older used 15 round mags.
One of the mags is unmarked with a dovetail back spine and witness holes at 5, 10, 15. The base plate is marked "P226" on the toe. Does anyone know the years this style mag was produced? Do these have any collector value?
The other mag looks the same as the first, except the side says P226, no baseplate marking, and has the sig logo and the back spine. I picked-up both mags for $20.
Here's my new to me 1993 P226 w/Nickel slide. I need to find some better grips.
The mag that has 'P226' stamped on the base plate is from the early '80s. Before that, it would have had the caliber stamped on the base plate instead.
I don't think this magazine version would add any value unless someone is looking for this model specifically. $20 well spent.
I like the aluminum grips. Hogue's checkered aluminum grips are what I have on mine.

I saw they make some that look close to the original. I'll probably go that route. It seems the original era plastic sell for $150 these days.
Forgot to mention that I really like that older shiny nickel finish Sig was doing, much more than the satin nickel finish they went to a few years later.

I have a West German p226, JJ 1988 I bought NIB in 1988. The magazine you describe is the same one that came with my pistol in the box. Also, that P226 stamped floor plate was a tad bit longer on the front than all my other Sig factory magazines I bought at the time. None of those 25 mags I have, still in the wrappers were stamped p226 on the bottom of the floor plate. I had those Hogue grips then changed them out for Uncle Mike’s rubber grips that were a copy of the original plastic checked grips. I recently went back to the old original factory plastic checkered grips. Also, the front grip strap on yours has the horizontal grooves on it. Mine are the earlier vertical grooves.

I see Hogue offers the Aluminum and G10 grips that mimic the original grips of this era. Is one better than the other?
They are both great in providing traction. But there are differences.
Aluminum grips tend to mar and scuff easily. If you’re rough on your guns and care about appearance, then they might not be your choice. Plus, cold and hot weathers can make your hand uncomfortable gripping the gun.
G10 grips are not really affected by the issues of the aluminum ones. Plus, they are available in more colors and patterns.

Thanks.
I actually think I just found some factory grips for $60. I'll see when they show-up if I was right.
My first ever Sig was an early P226 with the non-logo’g factory grips which i really like for feel comfort and looks.
My next choice is the black Hogue G-10 piranha textured grips. The piranha texture is the most comfortable yet plenty of gripping when my hands are sweaty.
For years I went with the checkered Hogue g-10’s for a more traditional look but the checker texture was too abrasive after a little range time.
I like the G-10 material on my grips. If they have a sharp edge you can lightly sand them as needed for. Omfort and never tell anything was ever done.

Can anyone confirm the vintage of this P226 magazine? It displays a smooth blue-black finish and is stamped "P226" on the floor plate. The dovetailed body is free of markings other than the 5, 10 & 15 numbered witness holes on the spine.
