Finally got to the range.
Impressions: triggers are the same, no discernible difference there. Again, love the U-notch sights on the compact. This is completely subjective but I will likely swap out the full size to a similar setup.
The Lok palm swell grips I put on the compact were considerably better than the factory grips. I was waiting for a range trip to put the same on the full size, but after this I’ll definitely do so. The factory grips on the full size are quite agressive but for some reason I just felt like it was TOO sticky, the aggressive checkering is like Velcro, and while it sounds counterproductive to say it, it was too much.

I definitely shot the compact better, likely a combination of the sights, grips, and shooting the 4.5lb full size at the end of the day when I prolly shoulda packed it in.

I took a couple P320s I’ve put together recently to test and check for function/sights. The DWXs were secondary.

The compact did have one failure to fully return to battery but I believe it’s this batch of old ammo I’m trying to burn through, I only got 500 rounds of it left so I’m gonna put it to good use but it’s happened several times with this ammo. Full size had no failures. (100 rounds each)

I’ll likely start another thread requesting opinions on good drills to be practicing. All I was doing here was firing as fast as I could get back on target. Maybe 1 second per shot on average.

Center was at 15’, top at 30’. Again, this is the compact which I shot a little better than the full size.

9/27:

9/26:
Initial impressions: Liking em both so far obviously, though I won’t be able to shoot until later in the week.

First, the factory grip and front strap checkering on the full size feel way better suited for the compact as a carry pistol. Perhaps they tamed the compact grips and checkering to the “frag” style to prevent folks from complaining about it chewing their skin or eating clothes. Those complaints seem to ring louder than folks complaining about not enough grip. I guess it’s easy enough to add more aggressive grips if one desires.

The sights on the compact are a thing of beauty, 100% subjective here but I love a U-notch. I’ve never messed with Black U-notch rears but was planning on using that setup on the project I’m working and I think it was a good choice. You pick up the outlined front night sight quickly and easily. Again, their goal of making the full size a competition or range pistol would have made carry sights a weird choice, but I still like the compacts sights better.

The mag release on the compact feels horribly gritty, you’d think they left metal shavings from machining in there somewhere. Not a huge concern but I’ll probably take it apart and check that out.

The trigger on both is just like any decent 1911, I’ll play with that more at the range and give a better opinion on both.

A point to consider, especially for mag whores like me, is that the compact will not accept current Mecgar aftermarket mags because the base pad is too thick, so you have to use factory mags for the DWX compact OR the older 14 round mags from mecgar/CZ. This is what I have read, I’ll confirm as soon as I can get a current Mecgar mag.

The full size is HEAVY, I’m sure this will be like 9mm from the 229 SSE or 226 SSE. I imagine it’ll be quite tame on recoil. The compact feels very comparable in weight to the P210 Carry, I’m sure a quick internet search will confirm but I’m lazy tonight, they aren’t just close in weight, but balance feels very similar as well.

I realize I’m comparing apples to oranges here in some ways when these two are intended for different purposes, but I’m hoping this thread can act as the tiebreaker for folks on the fence as I was about which one to pick.

I’ll compare more after the range.

I’ve got Lok grips for both but gonna give em one session each before I decide to put them on. The full size might just keep the factory grips, that checkering is stout.

I REALLY don't like rails on my carry guns, which is why I wanted the compact. But I want a light on my nightstand and camper gun, plus I want to shot the full size at the range more often.

The railed compact (which I haven't seen available in person yet) didn't do much for me. Though it might make the choice easier for some.

I am waiting on Maryland paperwork, hope to have them in hand within three weeks.

And I no longer feel like I have the financial sense of an NFL first round draft in a strip club. Razz. Definitely want a write up about these. Hell if we could carve out a time I’d love to shoot one.

Are these on the MD roster? Serious question not being a smart ass. Also I assume they will ship with 10 round mags and you will just source standard caps later? (Maryland as far as I am aware still doesn’t allow purchases or transfers of greater than 10 but ownership is fine. So it is legal to purchase out of state. I think this is still the case but “check my math”. )

The DWX was added to the roster yes. WRT the mags, the dealer will simply plug them, with a dowel I'm assuming, next time I travel to PA or WV I'll remove the dowels.

I like the Compact. Clean no rail. Looks a little bigger than I imagined. What is the barrel length?

I dig the compact as well. I tend to like that size envelope in general, not that they are not both awesome.

Enjoy. Can’t wait to hear how they shoot.

It’s listed as 4, I will measure tomorrow but I’d wager it’s a hair over 4”.

And the size is all accidental forced perspective with the photo, I’ll get some better pics tomorrow.

It’s considerably smaller than the full size. And yes, I appreciate the clean features of the compact as well. Call me a snob, but the trigger guard on the compact is what all trigger guards should be, that squared one is my least favorite feature of either of these.

Sweet!

I picked up the full size....normally I HATE ribbed 1911 triggers and planned to swap this one right away. After shooting it, I didn't mind it like I minded others I've owned. So, not sure what to do. Seems CZ has several replacement options available but it's a little confusing. I prefer a plain ole Cylinder & Slide rounded style.

CZ sells baseplates which, I assume, you could put on the Mec-Gar mags for the full size (although the red are out of stock), I don't see any for the compact DWX at CZ. Based on a video from CZ, the compact DWX factory mags actually using Henning aluminum baseplates.

The compact will take CZ75 compact mags, both factory and Mec-Gar. The full size will take CZ P-10 F mags, both factory and Mec-Gar. But again, you have to replace the baseplates.

Henning has baseplates for both. The cost of the Henning baseplates is around $20 and the cost of the CZ baseplates, is $15, IF they are in stock. I don't see any compact baseplates on CZ and I don't know if the fullsize baseplates will work with the compact, my guess is no.

Of course this raises the price of the mags. For the Mec-Gar they are still cheaper than the factory mags which are $45 (full) and $55 (compact) from CZ. If you buy factory mags for the CZ75 and CZ P-10 F which are geneally more expensive than the Mec-Gar, and add baseplates it will likely push the cost above the factory mags for the DWX depending on what kind of deal you can get.

BUT.... bottom line... I haven't been able to find any factory DWX mags in stock anywhere. So, I've been trying to find either Mec-Gar mags or factory mags that are compatible and buying baseplates.

The added wrinkle for me is that VT has a restriction on mag capacity at 15 rounds. It irks me to have to buy 10 round mags for a gun that comes with 19 round mags. But I was able to find some new old stock 15 round P-10 F factory mags which I hope will work for the full size.

The compact factory mags are not an issue at 15 rounds.

I've also purchased some CZ75 compact magazines and Henning baseplates which I hope will work for the DWX compact.

Seems like a huge oversight to come out with a premier $2K (MSRP) gun and not have factory mags available for it. But I expect its for the same reasons the gun was delayed in the first place.
