I believe Glock is selling the G34 currently without the cutout, aren't they? Just thinner material, but an enclosed slide?

Correct. The new Gen 5 G34s do not have the cutout.

Neither do the long slide large frame G40 (10mm) and G41 (.45), which were released several years back.

I have the G40 an G41, neither with a cutout, but my Gen 3 G34 and G35's both have the cutout. I've seen a few Glocks where the barrel was magnaported in the cut-out area, which just seemed to make it dirtier.

I like to leave a light coating of grease on the barrel, which is impractical with the slide cutout.

Glock finally figured out that there are other ways to reduce slide weight than chop holes into the slide. Thinner material, narrow up the overall slide width...those strategies do the same thing in lowering mass. Plus it's reasonable to assume that the G34 is a far more popular firearm for uses other than just as a Production Division competition gun, which from what I remember was its genesis when the G17L was legislated out of conformance and where all sorts of holes punched in slides and such isn't seen as a handicap.

Back to the Pro Series, I find that I like the grip design better on these 'upmarket' 320s than I ever did with the basic models. Whether X5 or Pro Carry, their grips feel more 'locked in' to me than the earlier shapes. Still not sure I'll ever come to like the 320 in its entirety, but I would like to give one of these upgraded versions a shot now that I've handled them a bit.

Where did you get a black 19X?

I built it, Cut off the front tab to accept all generation of magazines, including 5th Gen. Dyed the frame black with Rit Dye, and had the slide Nitrided. Building a second one black, same treatment, but the slide is being done in DLC.

Glock is releasing a black version later this year, but I got tired of waiting.

Where did you hear that Glock is releasing a black version? I sent Glock an email and they told me they had no plans to release a black 19X. I also talked to several dealers who said they had requests for a black 19X but that Glock was not going to make one. If I find a black Glock 19X I will buy one.

That's just the opposite of me. I've handled the standard P320 and shot the upscale X-Five 320, and found the upscale's grip to be less desirable, although I don't really care for either gun.

I recently put the x-grip on a couple of my P320's. I like it quite a bit. Very ergonomic. I didn't go with the mag well and weight, just the grip module. It's an improvement.

Agreed. The X-Carry grip module is a massive improvement over the standard P320 Carry grip.

I’ve been on a Beretta 92 resurgence lately but I have to say I still shoot my 320’s lights out by my standards.

I don’t care about that grip, in fact I hate the “Carry” module. I would love to get my hands on that slide though. Only thing stopping me before was that I didn’t want to be married to the Romeo’s. This is a huge improvement to me.

I hope they have a long slide version without the cutout, similar to the VTAC, too. Hell, while I'm smoking this pipe, maybe they'll remove the big honking rail as well.

Id still like to see the P320 thinned up a bit. Since its not compatible with the .45 it doesn't need to be so chunky.

There is a pro series full sized model being released as well. It will have the Carry frame, short dust cover and full length slide and barrel, and will not have the cuts. The rear sight setup will be the same as the pro series carry, separate sight and RDS plate.

It will look a lot like the black M17 Commemorative pistol, like this.

I don't have an official images from Sig for that one.
