I remember when Cabelas announced that they'd received a batch of "A" Grade P7s from Germany when the state police organizations were trading them in for something else. These were going for $500.00 and included the box, cleaning equipment, and one magazine (but others were available for purchase). This was sometime around 2005 (before the P7 M8 was discontinued) and I bought four or five of these fine pistols figuring they'd be scarce in the near future. One of them I sold to a judge friend of mine that was getting a CCW permit, after setting him up with good leather gear for carry purposes. Two I kept as they came to me and one that had started to get that purplish hue, I had refinished in Np3 (before they closed shop).

I still have all three pistols and the Np3 version is the only one I shoot occasionally. I also had the night sights refurbished by Trijicon with new tritium tubes. I could probably sell the two boxed OEM P7s, but that Np3 finished is something I'll retain until I'm incapable of shooting it.

Yeah those German police P7's were nice pistols at a very good price....... while they lasted. I bought an A and B and eventually sold the B to a friend. I probably should have bought more at the time.

Speak of the devil, MGW has new HK P7 magazines for only $80.00. Had to do a double take.

HK must be clearing out old production. I wonder the date code?

Believe it or not, HK still does the occasional run of all of the P7 magazines. These are likely new-production, or at most, only a few years old.

They also most likely don't have date codes, as HK stopped doing that quite a while ago.

I'm still pissed off that I passed up on buying a few 20 years ago.
Wife and I were expecting #1, and all my extra $ was going towards kid stuff.
Had I known then what I know now!!! I would have gotten 10 of them and used the $ for a college fund.

He ran his long slide in competition. IIRC he posted pictures of splicing the slide together.

He could ask a lot for one today!

The plum color happens for one of two reasons (or a combination of them), at least as far as I've been able to deduce:

1. The first possibility is that the steel used in its manufacture was likely the German equivalent of 4340 (instead of 4140), which is a great thing. I don't think it's a coincidence that the critical components of old Walthers and SIGs are the same way.

2. The second possibility is that it's a normal variation based on where in the solution tank your P7's parts were dunked when originally being blued, how long they were left in there, and the age of the "bath" (solution).

In either case, there's no functional need to refinish your gun. The plum color is completely harmless and the only reason people refinish such guns is because they don't like it aesthetically.

Plenty of refinishing options exist, depending on the look you're after.

A most excellent pistol. An engineering marvel which is a fantastically accurate and reliable weapon. It requires a fastidious amount of discipline which I must admit is beyond me. I had an accidental discharge with it that’s completely on me. Squeeze cocked it with my finger on the trigger when I should not have my finger on the trigger. My muzzle discipline was my only saving grace. Can’t take anything away from its design save for my own lack of attention. My example was a former NJ State Police gun which several Troopers also experienced. Like Clint Eastwood said in “Magnum Force” quoted, “A man’s got to know his limitations”, this pistol exceeded mine. After that experience, I stuck to traditional DA/SA SIGs like the P226 and embraced that manual of arms.

Love the design and the platform, but realized it was not for me. At least I know.
