Just fired my 2nd hundred through the gun. Confirmed via paper target that it shoots a couple inches lower than I would normally expect. (S&B 124gr this time). Decent groups shooting unsupported. I'm sure the gun is more accurate than I am. But I will have to get used to covering the target more than I do with my glocks and others. Re: the safety. 1) I'm not used to it. My only other single action is a revolver. So its not "normal" for me like it might be for a 1911 shooter. 2) I take safety very seriously, and would not point the gun anywhere but downrange with a round chambered and safety off. Shooting today I had the need to holster the gun in the middle of a mag and did use the safety, as it is intended. 3) In the picture I had just finished cleaning it, and yes I should have dry fired or let down the hammer but did not, my fault. 4) My "beef" with the safety is not that it exists, but that it is bulky. I understand the function and purpose on a single action pistol, I just think that on this particular gun it gets in the way of the slide stop. Also the ambidextrous function (sticking out both sides) makes the gun a little wide. I would prefer a left-side-only (right handed) version. Clearly its not a showstopper, this is my only complaint with the pistol. Im sure I will get used to it. For a defensive pistol I don't think I could use a single action. I am liking the 226 a lot right now but to serve nightstand duty I would need a da/sa. Anyway - maybe I will find a hotter round that shoots a little higher for me. Was shooting at 2" squares at 15 yards, and was grouping just below the squares. Its a shot that im confident with my glock or cz I would have groups centered on the squares. Not a big deal, just adjusting my sight picture a bit.

And just to be clear, the 226 legion sao is a fantastic shooter. This is going to be my new range gun, its a keeper. Great feel, great trigger, great sights.

The 226 is probably my favorite sig pistol. I have owned many many versions of the 226. Out of all the others 220,225,228,229 in all their variations i still come back to the p226. I have owned a number of other guns, da/sa and sa. P226's may shoot low. Give this a try before changing out the front sight. Put a single dot (quarter sized) on a backward target. Take 200 rounds of ammo to the range. Load 5 rounds into the mag a time. Bring the gun up from low ready dropping the safety as the front sight comes up to the eye. Put a finger in, squeeze the trigger. Fire the 2nd round. Remove finger from the trigger, put the safety on, lower to low ready. Repeat the process till all 5 rounds are shot. Repeat 5 rounds at a time till all 200 are shot. I am betting the point of impact will slowly shift to where you want it with prolonged steady deliberate practice. P226 grips are deceivingly large versus today's modern 1 piece molded grips. They require a bit getting used to as compared to newer poly guns. That extra grip size has an effect on how people hold the pistol when firing. That I think leads to a fair bit of the guns shooting low. I am currently sitting on 5 p226's. I do wish i still had my west german p226 I sold to 1Lowlife (ahem) and my SSE p226 i sold to a guy here on sig forum also. My current versions. Awesome collection and thanks for the tip on practicing. I will try to get some more shooting in this week after xmas. I need to come up with some creative new targets for the backyard range. I broke a hanging steel plate today somehow.

I need to up my target game! Only a pair of plates here and one snapped today. I like to see something move when i hit it. Could def go for a dueling tree or something more elaborate. Maybe a springtime project to budget for.

Next big cold snap, it is coming appart for a few weeks while i dump the remainder of dirt i have ontop of it. I am then going to see if i can get some local tree chippers to dump a few trucks of chips that i can put on top to keep the weeds down. It compacted nicely this summer. It needs to go up about 4 feet and about 12 feet wider on either side.
