So I got into a bidding war last night and I guess the other bidder gave up…. I’m now the proud owner of a S&W 4563 TSW! Now I just have to figure out how to pay for it I ordered a service pack from Wolff Gunsprings. That should take care of all the springs. What other spare parts should I be on the lookout for? Thanks guysThis message has been edited. Last edited by: dry-fly, "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Thank you, I’m excited to get it. It has a pretty good scuff on the trigger guard and looks like it hasn’t been cleaned since it was made. It’ll need some love and may need to go to CCR for some refinishing "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I've had 1st.,2nd.,and 3rd. Gen S&W pistols. Many of them shot with warm/hot factory ammo, and equivalent reloads. I've accumulated a small stock of parts over the years; just in case. Still waiting to use some of my spare pars Within my humble experience, the S&W semi-autos don't tend to break parts... NRA Life

Thanks for that, I probably just wasted money at Numrich on parts then. Edit…I didn’t mean for that to sound snarky ^ "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Never such a thing as wasting money on extra gun parts. I have some leftover parts for some guns I will probably never need but it is nice to think I have them just in case. Numrich has made a good chunk from me over the years.

Don’t underestimate calling S&W directly if you need OEM springs. Midway USA is obviously a good source for spare parts. I’ve had luck with Smith sending me things like hammer springs etc at times at no cost. Enjoy I wish daily Smith would start producing the 3rd gen’s again.

Magazines, bought a 4553TSW years ago and found out you just couldn't find the mags as easily as you once could.

Excellent, thanks for that. I didn’t know that could be done "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Well it came today and I’m excited! Three mags, original box and paperwork. It cleaned up really well in my ultrasonic tank. I think I made out pretty well… the scuffs on the trigger guard kept the price down some. I can’t wait to shoot it. Had to share: "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

That's a most excellent pistol - one of the best 3rd gens made. You're going to really enjoy shooting that one. Nothing wrong with a set of new springs and keeping spare parts on hand. Not much goes wrong with the 3rd gens but, it's nice to be ready if it does. I've got a large pile of all sorts of Sig P series parts, springs, screws and what have you....haven't had to pull from it yet but, one day...maybe...

I'd suggest getting a 100% parts kit off gunbroker.

1: there is a small leaf spring riveted to the top of the trigger bar called the trigger play spring. It is either broken, or it will break. The gun works fine without it, it will have a small amount of free play at the initial trigger takeup. You can either live with the play, or drive yourself crazy replacing the spring many times. 2: The slide has 2 plungers in it, one for the firing pin spring and one to run the disconnector. Bioth are plastic in a 3rd gen, older ones were metal. To change, the rear sight is removed and the plungers can be accessed. The plungers on 2nd gen are interchangable, and metal. given that, I never saw either one fail back when these guns were common. 3. The non 9mm aluminum frames crack eventually when shot alot, so dont put thousands of rounds through it. 4. Factory 3rd gen mag springs tended to wear out quickly, so some relacements are probably in order for your 25+ year old pistol. Pretty much everything else is good to go ***************************** "I don't own the night, I only operate a small franchise" - Author unknown
