Hey all, Just purchased my 4th Sig, the P229 SAO Legion. I currently carry a p365xl as my edc, have a p226 and my wife carries a 938.

I'd like to carry the new 229 but I am having a hell of a time finding a holster for it. I carry IWB almost exclusively and have multiple holsters for my other guns.

For whatever reason every holster I look at does not offer a product for the 229. Tons of options for 365s, 320s, 226s though. Has anyone run into this and what companies have you found make a quality IWB for the 229? I've found Milt Sparks and have no issue going that route I just would like some other options to choose from as well.

Don Hume PCCH. I have been very happy with mine for my rail-less P229. Not sure if they make one for the railed model, though.

You may want to give lobogunleather.com a try. They make a good product at reasonable prices. Wait time is not bad at all.

I have a Blackpoint Legion IWB and OWB for a P229 that I’ve been thinking of parting with.

R Grizzle Leather as mentioned. I just ordered my fourth one today.

For Kydex, Black Point Tactical's holsters are well designed and made.

Welcome to the Forum

For whatever reason every holster I look at does not offer a product for the 229 . . . How do you know this? Just reading the website? Or did you actually talk to the Company?

Just because it is not listed, does not mean they do not make it.

If they used to make it, but it is no longer cataloged . . . . I promise you that they still know how to make it and many will do it for you if you ask them.

Obviously you will not have the instant gratification of getting it in your hands in a few days, but you should be able to get what you want.

You can also go and look at the on-line auction sites. I had GunBroker search for SIG P229 Holster and came up with 631 available. Some of that will be current manufacture, some will be discontinued items and still others will fa;l into the pre-owned category

If it turns out to be something that a Manufacturer refuses to make for you that you really, Really want . . . you can always put a WTB ad here and on whatever local Firearms Forums that you frequent

I recently commissioned a holster from Ryan of R Grizzle Leather for a P229 Legion DA. I know the SAO is not a DA, but otherwise how would it be so different? On his site the P229R E2 was the holster he said would be for the P229 Legion.

Sig used to designate their guns as PXXXR or PXXX when they made them with and without a rail, but that has fallen by the wayside since most if not all have rails.

Here is Clinger Holsters for example. I agree with colt_saa, email the company.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Greatly appreciate the education.

I've emailed a few manufacturers before originally posting and they did not offer solutions. Currently, I use the Aliengear shapeshift setup for my Springfields and p365. I was thrown for a loop when I learned they did not or do not pan to offer solutions for the 229 with an optic.

Being that I am pretty new to using optics on handguns I made the mistake of assuming there would be just as many options for holsters as guns without optics. Big mistake on my part. So after contacting a few companies I reached out here.

So now I have a bunch of options thanks to you all. My biggest decision now is kydex or leather. I've only used hard shell holsters but I've always preferred some type of backing on them. My go to holsters are my shapeshift and Nate Squared. I am heavily leaning toward trying a leather as everything I've seen so far about them is how comfortable they are. I am very patient and have no issue waiting for one to be made.

So I'll be contacting RGizzle and Milt Sparks for some advice on how to proceed on the leather route and I like the Clinger systems so far but will research them more.

Of course with all that said I'll still grab a basic Kydex from We the People or some other off the shelf brand to get this gun on my hip while I figure the rest out.

So with that out of the way what are some of your experiences with leather vs. kydex. Just looking for opinions as I realize this is personal preference.

I think you initially left out the little nugget about the optic.

In my preliminary research, I haven't run across many, if any, VMII clones that are cut for an optic.

In the next year or two, I anticipate moving full-time to competing and carrying red dot guns. I LOVE my VMII and clones, but haven't seen any that will take a red dot gun. Plenty of kydex IWB holsters, and OWB leather ones, but not many VMII-style leather IWB.
I'm sure the issue is the optics cut messing with the reinforced opening.
