My other Sig is a Steyr. |
Consider also the difference between a 1911 and a 2011. Redesigning the 1911 frame and grips in to a single piece of stainless steel allows for a larger magazine cavity. Thus allowing for a larger magazine giving it more room for those extra 10mm rounds without a substantial increase in overall size. Thinking that it is not so much as a magazine design or cavity, it would be the design of the complete assembly of the pistol as a whole. I too am waiting for a firearm design by Paul Dirac.

Funny Keltec P11 story. I have never owned one. That said when my wife and I got married we were going to have a few wedding pictures taken with us holding guns. I packed the guns up, a couple SIGs IIRC or a SIG and a Walther but a couple classy guns and off we went to get married. Well come picture time the gun case is NOWHERE to be found. Much later we found out the maid of honor took it to the reception thinking it was a makeup case. . Well our photographer busts out a sly smile and says “I gotcha covered” and produces a Ruger P90 and a Keltec P11 with a sly smile. So we have wedding picture with me with a Ruger P90 and her with the P11. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

Which is why that gun never caught on. Kel-Tek is like that. They do some things that are hugely innovative and forward thinking, then screw up the implementation and manufacturing.

On paper the P11 seemed to be ideal but when I got mine, I had a hard time shooting it with accuracy. I put about 45 rounds through it when the trigger bar broke and after not getting any response from Kel-Tec about a replacement trigger bar, I ordered new one, installed it and promptly sold it. Also there was alot of flex in the trigger. Great innovation but lousy manufacturing & support.

George Kellgren got the magazine design right, but the trigger was an abomination. He couldn't come up with a better fire control design than super heavy DAO. If he went striker, this could have been THE carry gun for decades.
