Awesome! You wont be disappointed. If you end up hating DAK, the parts to convert are still readily available, and its an easy project. I think the more you shoot it the more you will appreciate it.

I have a P229 Elite Classic Carry in 9mm and would like to get one of the P229 .40 DAK's then get a replacement barrel in 357 sig.

Congrats on the purchase. Hopefully you have another P-series that looks similar so that if your wife asks you can just act like you've had it for a long while.

I've got very long fingers, so I might be okay. I'll definitely keep that in mind, though. Again, that was very cool of you.

So far, that seems well worth four bills. I shot 50 rounds of HST, 50 rounds of Lawman and a few magazines of my really weak lead reloads. There really is something special about any P22x pistols. One thing I don't love is the stocks. I'm shoot with my right side thumb up since my surgery and the left stock protrusion at the top is painful. Any suggestions? Taking the stock off, it doesn't look like that really needs to be there. I'm looking at Hogue right now.
Glad you like it! Looks to be in good shape, too. I have a well used set of Hogue rubber grips you can have if you want them, and a set of E2 grips I would trade for your two-piece grips if you were interested.

That protrusion at the top of the left grip plate is something I believe I have never seen before. I’m curious if the plate could be used with a decocking lever, i.e., is there a gap under the plate that would allow a lever to be installed, or does that part of the grip plate contact the frame?

It looks like it was meant for a decocker but my 226 doesn’t have that protrusion and it is DA/SA. I looked online but I haven't found any DAK slim grips available. Mr. Cous2492 has graciously offered to trade me his E2 grip. Still, if anyone has a source, I wouldn't mind picking another set up. I might find myself picking up another variation from Sherrdeee ern ern.

Also, the .40 is a fine round. I was on the 9mm wagon and realized that .40 was not the dog it was being sold as by the FBI. Our armorers, who are very good, tested several ammunition brands and bullet designs and found that our Federal HST 180gr bullets out performed the 9mm versions in testing held at our range with factory reps present. We are upgrading from non railed P226 in .40 to the railed version with SRT kits installed. Officers will have a choice between E2 and standard grips and short reach or standard triggers. I'm personally excited about the small change.
My Agency issued the 229R DAK .40 from 2005 to 2019. And two other .40s before that.
DAK works and 40 works but works does not equal optimal.
I’d prefer a DA/SA but there is no free lunch and DA/SA takes a bit more work to shoot well. The problem is training time is always in short supply.
9mm is not replacing .40 because 40 doesn’t work. 9 just does the same thing with less recoil and more rounds. Less recoil = shooting faster. In a fight, bullets are opportunities, more is better.
That said if my choices were a DAK 9mm or a DA/SA .40 I would take the 40. The DAK just sucks the joy out of shooting a SIG.
I would also advise conducting some objective testing before going to the E2 grips. They feel good but feelings lie and our people’s performance was better with the standard grips. The E2s also lose texture and get “slick” very quickly when carried and rubbing against things.
