Oh please. By all means don't use it if you don't want to. Every manufacturer, EVERY SINGLE ONE, will state not to use reloads either. Would that really stop you from rolling your own? Lets talk lacquer. It is a mess eventually. If you use the gun for self defense then a cleaning is in order. Is it a strenuous cleaning? Nope. Hoppes number 9 and a brush and the bore/chamber is like new. If it is a range gun, it takes a while for the reliability to be impeded. I have a 320, a 92, and a G19 that regularly use Tula/Wolf. I rarely clean them. No impact that I can tell. If I was to put one in the HD role I would clean it before any rotation back into that role.

No one can show even mild evidence of extractor wear, barrel wear, any wear whatsoever. Confirmed stuff includes some ranges won't allow it and lacquer is smelly and potentially reliability impacting.

Its cheap and it works and it won't hurt your gun in any permanent way (lacquer).

A friend of mine has north of 20k rounds of steel cased 9mm through a P320. To date he has experienced a total of three malfunctions, all of which have been bad primers on Hornady ammo.

A lot of the Russian stuff has lacquer on the cases, apparently to "weatherproof" the primer. You can smell it when it burns in firing. It will definitely gunk up your firearm. I have a case of "Golden Bear" (or something like that) with just a couple of boxes gone. I will probably leave it at the range with a "Free" sign....

You can give it to me lol

I don't know if using steel ammo will accelerate wear, leave any lasting deposit in the firearm or hurt it in any way.

But I like my firearms too much to use any ammo that might, maybe or even possibly could hurt one even slightly.

So, no, nope , never use steel ammo in mine.

And won't.

i run steel 9mm and 223 a lot out of an AUG and Uzi (both I’ve had since the late 80’s). so, never had an issue.

however steel cased tula, wolf, etc has never run well in my Sig 516 pistol. was told the cases don’t seal as well as brass... seriously, have never cycled properly (not even once).

i know it’s an old thread, just looked it up today.

Yup, lots of it through the Glocks.

Brass in the Berettas (other than function check with Steel).

I used to use steel case every once in a while to save a buck until I had a case get stuck in the chamber of my CZ to the point I almost couldn't get it out without a hammer or press. I was worried about scratches and gouging to the chamber so no more steel for my guns.

For me it's not so much the steel case I object to it's the filthy propellant usually found in the cheap ammo.
I'll pay a bit more and get decent 124 gr ammo, I especially like the NATO spec stuff.

Steel ammo in a .380 acp chambered Makarov pistol or a or 9x18 chambered Makarov pistol? Yes. In any other pistol ? Rarely, if ever, and only for cheap range use. Certainly Not for carry purposes!

I just began working on my second batch of Wolf 9mm steel case.(1000 rounds).
The bulk of it has been shot through my CZP10c.
It locked up on me last week due to what I believe was an over loaded round. Case was swollen and primer pierced. Had to pry it out when I got home.
That's the single problem, so far.

The 100% rational answer would probably be to shoot steel all you want. It's likely the economics work out that the savings over brass is enough that by the time the extra wear starts to affect the gun you've saved enough to replace the gun - unless you reload, of course.

I guess I'm not 100% rational.

I have North of 10k steel cases rounds through my CZ SP-01 tactical. The friction of the steel casing was enough to stick to the non polished factory feed ramp. Once I polished it (within the first 2000 rounds), I have had no other issues.

The primers appear to be a bit tougher leading to the occasional failure to fire in striker fired pistols. The revolver rounds (357 magnum) also have a tendency to swell upon firing and rarely eject smoothly from my gp100.

My 9mm Colt Commander and CZ P-01 eat the steel case without issue. CZ P-01 is stock. The Commander has a Wilson Combat extractor because the factory extractor was struggling even with brass cased ammo. These 2 pistols have roughly 800 tula rounds a piece on them.

Oh, and the CZ Scorpion K conversion eats steel cased ammo with glee. Maybe 2000 rounds through it with PGS mags being the culprit when issues were encountered.

All of the above mentioned firearms were tragically lost in a boating accident. I have not put any steel cased ammo through the yeet cannon I currently own and carry.
