Trade P30 for P229 in 357 Sig? Login/Join

Would you trade a HK P30 V1 for an older Sig P229 in 357 SIG?

This appears to be a less common version featuring a Stainless frame with darkened slide. From what I’ve gathered it appears to be the RTSER designation. Frame has no rail and was made in Germany.

I wouldn't, but then I have zero interest in either the P229 or the .357 SIG.

I got out of 357Sig when it became even more uncommon on local shelves.

Loved shooting it, hated paying to feed it.

Thanks for the responses so far. Let’s say the cartridge is not so much in question, but rather the pistols themselves. I’ve actually got a .40 barrel already that came out of another P229 that I will drop in.

Mine is wearing aftermarket Hogue Tulip wood grips

I presume this is the variant hat you are referring to

If my memory is good, the initial run of these was 400 pieces back in the early 2000s.

These SSS-RSTER pistols were manufactured in 40 S&W on stainless steel frames. The slides were finished in a style similar to the Equinox pistols. Two additional runs brought the total manufactured to just over 1,000

What caliber is your P30?

P30 for shooting. That P229 for collecting.

Yes sir. That is it. The one in question has a factory Sig wood grip that I’m assuming someone replaces the plastic grips with.

Thank you, that is exactly the information I was looking for.

I own both (well not the fancy looking 229, just the regular non railed). 357sig takes time to acquire, but I ordered a 1k case of Speer lawman and waited a year for it. But for $16 a box I didn’t complain.

Is that actually a stainless frame, or silver-colored aluminum? If it's actually stainless, I'd say jump on it, especially if you've already got a .40 barrel as well.

The only reason I wouldn't is if it's your only carry gun...a stainless P229 is going to be pretty heavy and the P30 would certainly carry better. But as a unique range gun, that P229 looks pretty sweet.

The SSS-RTSER is a STAINLESS frame just like the Sport pistols

There have only been 4 non-railed stainless P229 variations

My SSS-RTSER, serial numbered AM50xxx, was purchased new in 2006 and the box shows a 2006 manufacture year. I think mine was from the first batch.

Update: Got it. I’ll post up some pics tomorrow. Thanks for everyone’s help. I’ve been wanting a stainless Sig for a long time. Probably would have hesitated if it weren’t for the advice here.

It's easy to find another P30. I like the P30 and it is one of my carry options but I am must more accurate with a P229.

my first gun was a P229 in 357. I'd make that trade.

Colt_saa has a fine collection.
He has posted this pic a few times over the years and I always enjoy seeing them.
I'm a P229 fan and still have a couple of them.
