Looking at dot options for the new 43X MOS. It has an RMSC footprint with the four posts. I'm trying to find the best option to stick on there. This is going to be a carry gun, so whatever I get needs to be reliable. I want direct mount, and co-witness with standard irons is a huge plus. I'm not sold one way or another on enclosed vs open emitter. Enclosed would be nice but I've been carrying open emitter optics for years without any significant issues. I've got several Holosun optics, and while I have been happy with them, Holosun K uses a modified footprint that would either require using an adapter plate or milling down the posts on the slide, and I don't want to do either of those things. The RomeoX Compact is a good option, albeit kinda expensive. I have one on my P229 and like the low deck height, but the brightness adjustment buttons do have an annoying tendency to get inadvertently actuated when carrying IWB. Overall I like it, but IMO for the money it should be perfect so I figure it's worth exploring the options. Looking online I've seen a couple of others that I don't know anything about and was hoping I could get some feedback. 1. Vortex Defender CCW. They're available in both open and closed emitter. The earlier versions had issues with a low refresh rate on the emitter causing a choppy appearance when tracking the dot, and the battery cover could also block the beam making the dot disappear in the lower portion of the window. Supposedly these issues have been corrected in later versions. Battery life is less than competition but still about a year. Has Vortex's lifetime warranty which in my experience is excellent. 2. OSight SE. Very inexpensive, seems to have clear glass and a well-defined reticle. This one is enclosed, and uses a replaceable battery unlike the rechargeable one with the goofy hood. They seem to get good reviews under regular use, but I saw one that leaked water (to be fair, he dropped it first), which is not good. While I don't plan to submerge it, an enclosed system that isn't perfectly water/airtight is bound to get moisture and fogging inside eventually. 3. The new version of the Romeo Zero...the Romeo RS. It's small, light, and cheap, but I've never been impressed with the Romeo Zero, and this one looks like it's not much different, and still pretty fragile. 4. Shield RSMc. This one is kinda the OG, but it's pretty pricy and I'm not sure what it offers for the money. I've only seen them in passing, and my impression is that it's pretty similar in function and form factor to the Romeo Zero, but I may be way off base here. Those are the ones that are on my radar, but I know there's a ton of other stuff out there. I'm sure a lot of it is junk, but maybe I'm missing something good. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

"Footprint" as in size, or mounting pattern? Shield is the OG, made the DoctorOptic, made the Optima2000. Made in the UK if that matters to you, vs Chyna I have a couple, no real complaints... other than their marketing. (they have lots of ever slightly changing model variations, you can't always keep track of what's what, certainly not on their website. This model with a plastic lens, same model with a glass lens, this dot size, that dot size. It was frustrating buying one of the one's I had, because I KNEW I saw it for sale somewhere, but couldn't find the variation on their site or anywhere else (till I finally did locate it again). Another example is the "OMS" sight, also called the "OMS Range" it's really the "OMSc", since it's a subcompact. But by naming it OMS, it shows up as such and it's possible to buy it without knowing it's a sub compacat. (says the guy who bought one not knowing it was a sub compact)

I have a Vortex Defender CCW open emitter on my Hellcat Pro. It is the model after the revisions that fixed refresh and sleep time/battery life. I’ve had no issues with it. Now I am not hard on my gear so I have not drug it behind my car or towed a boat with it or poured maple syrup on it. I have shot it, bumped it a few times and carried it and haven’t had any issues at all. It’ll take me to the Food Lion and back. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

I can't imagine I'd be any harder on it than you. Have you noticed if the dot disappears before it gets to the bottom of the window, or does it use the full glass? That particular optic has some extra appeal as I have a couple hundred dollars in gift cards to a retailer in Ohio that carries them. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Now that you mention it the dot does disappear before using the whole glass. It’s never caused me any practical issues though. I actually remember noticing it early on and then sort of forgetting about it as it never cause me issues. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

How far above the bottom of the window does it cut out? ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

I just looked at mine and it’s pretty far down like past my front sight down. Maybe a couple MM up the glass?? It’s not obtrusive in my case. I could try and get a video of it if you like (not sure I could but I’d be happy to try). While I quite like the optic I think I prefer my Holosuns. I really wish Trijicon or Aimpoint would put something out in this footprint. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Thanks Chris. And I agree...I like the RMSc footprint I just wish everyone would get with the program and pick a standard. The Holosun K footprint is so close but they just had to be different with the posts. And then you've got Trijicon and Aimpoint off doing their own things entirely. It doesn't serve the manufacturers as it causes consumers (at least this consumer) to write certain products off entirely based upon the factory cut that they're stuck with, and it's no good for consumers, either, as it narrows the available options. I've heard that Glock has been moving towards switching the slimline MOSs over to the Holosun K cut, which imo makes more sense than true RMSc as it's more versatile. Unfortunately they hadn't gotten around to doing that yet when they made my gun. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Well dang it, I found the Osight SE on Optics planet for $149.99 so I ordered it. That's cheaper than Govx, and less than half the price of an EPS Carry, which would also require plates and taller backup sights. It's also $100 less than the open-emitter Vortex CCW. Considering all the positive reviews I'm seeing, for that price I can't not try it. Direct mount, co-witness with existing open sights, enclosed emitter...it checks all the boxes. This is what happens when I get shut in the house for the weekend with a snowstorm outside and nothing else to do, lol. I'll let you guys know what I think when it gets here and I have a chance to put some use on it. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

HA! That’s kind of how I ended up with the Defender CCW. It was on a sale that was so good that if it totally sucked I would just warranty it and throw it on a .22 or something. Hope the O-Sight is as pleasant of a surprise for you as my Defender has been for me. Also you CAN grind those extra posts down for a native K footprint. Thats just not something I am willing to do, at least not for a Holosun vs. “similar” options. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Yeah, I know, but I agree with you and just really don't want to go cutting up my slide, especially when there are options out there that don't require it. Apparently Glock has started moving towards a "K cut" footprint that will support the Holosun's and true RMSc optics, but mine isn't one of those. Why they didn't just do this in the first place I don't know... ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Can confirm The first thing I noticed was the Torque Screws were replaced with Allen. It also lacks that lip at the rear. Here is my old 43x (black) w/rail footprint compared to my 43x Coyote I bought last month: I appreciate you bringing this to my attention as it seems it will not need a plate. Earlier railed 43x Serial# CBAMxxx vs the Coyote 43x CGLZxxx.

Hopefully that change becomes a mainstream trend and not just something for the Coyote special edition. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

I have had 0 issues using a C+H Precision plate and EPS Carry on my 43X. It sits super low and has been rock solid for me. IMHO, going with a C+H plate has been 1,000 times better than any of the OEM options. I’ve had problems with the MOS plates on my 17.4 with a Trijicon RMR.

Low enough to co-witness with the factory sights or did you have to put taller ones on there? ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

TBH, I did a Frankenstein build and had the 290-313 Night Fision sights on hand. IIRC, my older 507K X2 has that notch in the rear and that should/would work with factory height sights and the C+H, which is advertised as 0.045” thick. It’s half the thickness of the V4/LEO plates.

Thanks, that's good to know. I still don't love the plate idea, and they're pretty spendy for what they are....but it's nice to at least know they're a viable option. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

My son bought the Coyote version and mounted a Holosun 407k directly on it. If they change the cut on the black ones, it probably is on my list this year too. _________________________ "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last” - Winston Churchil
