Anybody use ship my gun? Login/Join

So my local FFL now charges $45 for a transfer, and $60 for shipping. Looking to ship a handgun and this service "seems" to be a good pricepoint, but I have no experience with it. Anybody use ship my gun before? Thanks.

Yes, they are very efficient. I used them to ship my Beretta to CCR.

I used them a few times without issues. They no longer provide you boxes. Just shipping label (Fedex overnight). Also their website is hit or miss. You might have to try a few times before payment goes through and transaction is created. Don't rely on the system faulty messages. Make sure you see a pending transaction and a pending charge on your credit card otherwise the request failed. I had to call them a couple times and customer service was good.

I've used them twice recently. It was ~$60 to ship a handgun from AR to WV with $1300 insurance, and ~$35 to ship a rifle from AR to NJ with $1500 insurance.

In both cases, the receiving FFL wasn't in their system yet, and SMG did all the legwork to get a copy of their FFL and confirm everything. One label took a couple hours to sort out, while the other took a couple days, but I believe that had to do with the receiving FFL's response times to SMG's communication.

Very straightforward process, provided you have a FedEx hub nearby, and the means to box up the gun yourself. As stated above, while their website mentions mailing you a box, that's no longer an option. They only email you a shipping label, and you have to provide your own packaging. Once boxed and labeled, it's just a matter of dropping it off to your local FedEx hub.

It's a bit cheaper than shipping it on your own through UPS/FedEx, and more importantly you don't have the hassle of working with the uninformed counter jockeys at your local hub to create a label. (The ladies at my local UPS hub are awful when it comes to shipping guns and ammo, with ridiculous notions about the laws and regulations. The FedEx folks are slightly better, but still a crapshoot.)

I’m buying a firearm from member Dobbler who is using this service to ship me a long gun. He said he always uses them with no issues. He’s shipping individual to my FFL and I have full confidence. Enough members here vouch for the service so it works or you’d have people warning to stay away. Use it with confidence, sig forum approved.

Thanks for this. Seems interesting.
I have dropped off guns for work in PA, Alabama, Florida, Texas, and Louisiana, but I think only once shipped a frame through Fed Ex, and it was a pain and expensive.
May I be dense and ask some dumb questions?
I went onto the Ship My Gun Get Started page and have questions.
If I want to ship guns to Cajun Gun Works (real life scenario) (1.5 years ago I dropped guns off at Cajun -- great to visit, great people, and great work but I live in Maryland

Sounds like a nice option!

I've been reluctant to try selling guns in the classifieds before because getting it to an FFL that doesn't charge a hefty fee on the outbound is a challenge.

I have never heard of this before. What a great option to dealing with UPS or FedEx directly. Always a pain.....

Ouch!!
That is embarassing. I have been away and just reread my post and see I managed to delete the actual question when posting and rambling prior to vacation.
Promise I wasn't drunk, but I was sure rambling...

Anyway --
If I ship a gun(s) to Cajun or any other out of state gunsmith, does it have to go via an FFL to FFL transfer?
I have shipped off a registered receiver via FedEx to the gun manufacturer without going through an FFL; can I not do that to a gunsmith?
The several times that I have dropped guns at manufacturers and gunsmiths out of state they have said it was legal to just ship them back to me directly.
There doesn't seem to be any option to ship directly on ShipMyGun, without going through an FFLtransfer. If you still have to do an FFL transfer each way to send to an out of state gunsmith, it still gets pretty expensive, even if you are saving the hassle of dealing with the Fed Ex counter people.
Thanks for the patience of reading, and your replies.

You can send your gun to an FFL for gunsmithing and they can send it back to you. You could still use Ship My Gun, but they would need the receiving gunsmith's FFL. If I was one of the bigger deal shops,I would want to be listed with Ship My Gun as it makes them more accessible to their customers.

Thought I would give an update.
I recently used ShipMyGun for a handgun shipment and mine went out UPS....the Buyers FFL wasn't in the "Preferred" list but ShipMyGun did have all the FFL contact information and all was approved and I had the label emailed to me within 24 hours.
ShipMyGun is owned by Bud's.

You will still need to drop off your package at the UPS Service Center, not a UPS Store. It is still a lot less hassle and CHEAPER, than shipping it your self. Oregon to Texas was about $40 through SMG. UPS wanted over $100 for overnight, private party.

Any recent experience? I just bought a label on their site, it hit my Amex immediately and then nothing. No email, no label, nothing showing in my shipments. Been about an hour now. How long until I get some kind of confirmation from them?

When I've used them, it typically takes a few hours to a few days before the label is provided.

Partly depends on whether the receiving FFL is already in their system or not, and if not, how long it takes the receiving FFL to get back to them with the requested information.
