Other than the barrel length and magazine release location, are there any significant differences? I’m looking at both, but my budget doesn’t support getting both right now.

Are you talking about 9mm 220 (P75 type) with the heel/european magazine release? The 220 has a longer grip, and longer slide/barrel. the shape of the trigger guard is different. The 9mm P220 has a magazine capacity of 9 rounds; the P225 magazine has a capacity of 8 rounds. Unloaded, the P225 weighs about 1-2 ounces or 60ish grams less than the 9mm P220, depending on grips.

Yeah, I was looking at a 9mm BDA that has the heel release and a P225 with a thumb release. I guess either one is fine, since they’re just going to be range pistols.

The P225 has a sensuous round butt. It also tends toward a tougher trigger pull.

In addition to what 1K said, the P220 grip is slightly thicker (1/32") and wider front to back, about 1/8". The width of both slides is right at 1" but, obviously different lengths. They're actually closer in size than I thought before I laid them side by side and measured them.

EDIT: Changed photo to replace the American mag release with a European mag release, as that's what you're considering.

Cool. You might want to price out magazines for each and see if there's a significant difference if that matters for a range gun. I know the P225/P6 magazines have skyrocketed lately but I imagine the 9mm P220 mags aren't super plentiful.

Also if you have large hands the P225 magazine baseplate might interfere with your pinky. The one in Tooky's pic appears to have been modded or aftermarket flush-fit baseplate.

That's a Brad Davis baseplate. I've got a number of P225s and was able to buy a bunch of his baseplates before he dropped out of site back in 2015. Don't know if he's ever resurfaced, but I've got his email address of someone wants to try... email me and I'll forward it to you.

I have owned both you describe, 2 of the 220 and 4 of the P225. Now I just have the 225, and I recommend you get it if only one can be acquired, and if the number of mags is the same. That opinion may change based on how many mags come with each that you are looking at. For example I would get the 220 with 3 mags before I got the 225 with one mag. Mags are a potential problem, although you can also use 38 Super mags in the 9mm P220, but again those are also hard to find. Let us know what you do!

I’m real proud of myself for picking up a couple of those P6s when they started showing up for $300, plus a handful of extra mags and parts kits. Still kicking myself in the butt for never getting around to grabbing a couple of Brad’s base plates.

Bought a European P220 in 9mm while stationed there. It was my “in the field” backup as an MP (we still carried 1911’s).
I figured I should sample some of the local fare, not just their beer and frauleins. I liked it, but my 1911 came home with me, not the 220 (nor the fraulein)

Here's an old photo I took in the past, showing the difference between the stock and Brad's base plates. Of course, you can't use them on the mag heel-release pistols, as you need the lip to remove the mag.

The base plate is flush with the frontstrap, as shown in the pic at the top pf this page. This is for people who have trouble getting all four fingers on the frontstrap. The stock baseplate sticks out and interferes with that last finger.
