Short reach trigger for German P220 [8mm]?
Hello,

I am getting a P220 in .38Super, but can't get it home for 10 days [California's DROS waiting period].

In the meantime, I am looking into how to 'tune' the action to be the same as my existing P220 and P226.

I currently have the short reach trigger installed in both, as well as the short reset trigger [SRT].

In my searching, I realized that the German-made P220's used a narrower trigger than the US made [or, just more recent] ones.

It seems that the German made ones are 8mm thick, vs 10mm for US made ones.

Is there any source for the short reach triggers for the German-made/8mm factory trigger?

Thanks in advance!

I can only think of two possibilities at the moment.

  • The earliest of Browning BDA P220s had a trigger that was thinner than what shipped as the P220 trigger from Sig.

  • GrayGuns claims to make one soon. How soon? You'd have to ask them.

    Good luck finding your magazines.

    Necro-posting at it's finest!

Just an update for anyone else in the same boat. I found an 8mm wide standard trigger as a spare and used my dremel to grind/polish the face of it to make it about the same thickness/thinness [depends on angle] as my other short reach triggers.

Then I tested it and had it cerakoted in black.

I didn't round the edges as much as the other one, so it is more of a squared blade, but it is rounded enough for comfort.

In retrospect I should have rounded it more to also help with the finger reach.

Here is a link to the image of it:

IMGur seems to have changed and I can't figure out how to embed pictures any more. sigh.

A p239 trigger is 7.5mm and will work in a German P220 in place of the 8mm trigger. Short reach triggers for the P239 were made, but aren’t too easy to find.

    Looks good!

Was able to get a pic of the BDA trigger mentioned earlier:

In my experience, the most difficult short trigger to find is for the old P220 (which is also for the P245). Next in difficulty after that is the short trigger for the original P225 (not to be confused with the P225-A1), followed by the short trigger for the P239 (which is also for the P225-A1).

All remaining classic P-Series (including all US-frame P220s and even some later German-frame P220s) just use the same trigger as any P226, P228, or P229. That short trigger is still in production and available new from SIG.

Nontypical is correct. The old P220s (and all P245s) can just use the P239 short trigger in a pinch. In fact, unless something has changed, I’m pretty sure that Armory Craft lists the same trigger for the P245, P239, P225-A1, and old P220.
