I like it. The LGS had one a while back. I thought about it but as I recall it was closer to $1K. Cliff FPD ret., USN ret., NRA Lifer

I've read the thread so far, but what you said there is what really stands out for me. In the pictures it looks almost like a brick red or what the paint department at the hardware store calls a "desert red". I agree with you that the black grips are a vast improvement over the originals. But if that red is kind of an earth tone, I'd be tempted to keep experimenting with different earth tone colored grip panels for a bit before giving up on the red frame. As for the red and the black, for whatever my opinion is worth, I think I could live with it. I understand it doesn't have the visual effect of a bright fire engine red and a jet black, but maybe that just means it's something different.

I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. At $500 NIB I would have bought it too. Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six

You're right, of course, but the black Lok grips saved it. "It shoots like a champ" is all that really need be said, because what else possibly matters? Frankly I'd keep it and shoot it, but that's me.

I like it. I've said it / posted it before, I want to get a matched set of 1911's like I used to have, one red, one blue.

It would seem that many collectors / limited edition guns are either overly ornate or have weird colors as is the case here. Given that it has proved a great shooter and in the off chance that it may be sold as a unique piece, I'd simply leave well enough alone. Putting significant money into a cheaply purchased piece may not pass the sanity check. By your own account, it's a straight shooting 1911 with good bones. Change the red to black or whatever floats your boat, shoot the snot out of it. For $500, you can spend another $200 - $350 and fix what bugs you. If its reliable nd shoots well, it's all good.
