If you use a good holster and a REAL reinforced gunbelt, its not too bad to carry. I wore my 4506-1 yesterday while working at the gun range. Yeah, its heavier than a tupperware gun. But I had no problems. And I've got a bad back and knees from 26 years on the street.

Now as to the 4566. Oh yeah! Now your talking! Perfection in a commander sized 45. We got those issued to us in 2005/2006. Decock only and spurless hammers. Mine is as accurate as my Kimber Stainless target pistol. I bought mine when I retired. I still carry it regularly. On a real gunbelt using an MTR Custom leather Askins Avenger style open top holster. My favorite "working gun" set up. And I will say, it is easier to carry all day than it slightly larger cousin. Especially in plainclothes.

Lighter than most 1911s too. And like the 4506-1, the 4566 is far more reliable than a 1911. I have several scarce 4566 models. Including the Performance Center 45CQB, Melonite LE sales sample and a Melonite LE order overun. But I prefer the trigger on my old stainless duty gun, to all of them. Regards 18DAI

I had a few 645's 845's and 745's thru the shop, and a few 4506's too,

thought of keeping one just cause, but they just do not fit my hand well,


FWIW, they sold quickly, and not exactly cheap,

I love the 3rd gen Smiths. Have several including the 4506, 1006, 4006. Love shooting the full sized steel framed 3rd gens.

Don Johnson had a Browning BDA in the pilot, and a Bren X for the first two seasons. For the third season he changed to a 645, Then he switched to a 645 for seasons 3 and 4, and finally a 4506 for the last season.

Denzel Washington's dual 4506's in a shoulder rig in Training Day was pretty cool.

The Third Gen Smiths (especially the .45 ACP and 10 MMs) are highly under appreciated and undervalued.

It was only a matter of time before people started to realize it.

I purchased a new 4505 back in the early 90's (I actually wanted a stainless 4506 but was unable to find one in stock anywhere, lol). I really regret selling that one. It was a mighty fine handgun.
