Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best |
What rusting agent/process did you use? I did a S&W Model 31 and a No 4 Enfield a few years back with Mark Lee Express Blue and they turned out pretty good. I tried the same process on a P228 slide, and the result was not as good (ended up getting that professionally redone in DLC, and it's fine now). The express blue is pretty easy...de-rust, degrease, wipe it on, boil it, card it off, repeat numerous times until satisfied. I know there are other products out there that use steam cabinets and the like....I know that's a longer process, but I'm curious if it might be more consistent. ETA: Here's the No04 after the refinish: Compared to before: And the Model 31: I've got a really Ugly No5 Enfield that I really want to clean up, but I need either a water tank big enough to boil a full barreled action in, or a steam cabinet.

92fstech, I used a mixture of vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and salt. Same over all process though. And I also want to build a steam cabinet/chimney. https://blessingsofliberty0.wixsite.com/mysite Veteran owned 07 FFL/ 02 SOT LandWarfareNow@gmail.com Instagram @land.warfare

Nice. I'll have to try that next time. Probably cheaper to make my own solution than ordering more. Do you remember what the amounts were for your recipe?

1 cup hydrogen peroxide 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar 1/16 cup salt (but I usually just eye ball it) https://blessingsofliberty0.wixsite.com/mysite Veteran owned 07 FFL/ 02 SOT LandWarfareNow@gmail.com Instagram @land.warfare
