I just ordered some of these Gen 3, S15 mags. What are y'all's experiences with them? Are they reliable? I bought them and the aluminum mag catch for a Glock 48. Thanks! "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

They highly recommend a steel mag catch. I used an Al alloy mag catch w/ the S15s, and it got chewed up. If you ordered the Shield Arms mag catch, it's made of steel.

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying that. I assumed it was aluminum.. I did order a Shield Arms part so it must be steel. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I didn't have any issues with the gen3 mags. I ended up selling my 43X with the mags and Shield mag release to a coworker. I bought a PSA Micro Dagger and we bought a bunch of their 15rd mags and had no issues. Doesn't need a metal mag catch. Not minority enough!

I had them (Gen 1, probably) and they worked great. I ended up getting a PMM comp for my 43X and PMM's site said the gun may not work with S15 magazines and their comp. Sure enough, mine did not. I ended up switching to Micro Dagger mags. I would not hesitate to use them again in a non-comped gun, though.

Why would that be? | |||

^^ I was curious about that too, Para. Why would PMM’s comp have ill effects from a magazine? "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I’ve been using the 15Rd Shield mags for about a year and a half now. I bought the 3 pack with the mag release. Im upset about 2 things- #1) I should have bought the 5 pack! #2) Not to sound like a fashionista, but… I wish Shield had better options for purchase- I would have liked the silver mag release to go with silver pins and silver magwell. Unfortunately not an option, you’d have to re-purchase a silver mag release… not a HUGE problem, just something I wish the company could do. Probably 750 of not more rounds through them in a G-43X and zero problems from the magazines. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Interesting, thanks for that. I wasn’t doubting it, just wondered how a magazine would affect a comp. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I have the Gen2 shield mags without the rear mag dimples. Like others have noted, the Gen2's would rock a little fore and aft in the mag well, which some would attribute feeding issues to, although mine never had any issues. The Gen3's have the mag dimples to take up the additional space to prevent the rocking. I never had any failures with the Gen2's but just in case, what I did was 3dprint a small strip of 1mm plastic that I glued to the back of the magazine. This prevents the Gen2 mags from rocking and was a lot cheaper than buying new Gen3's. Mags still fall out freely even with the spacer. My G43x has the metal Shield magazine button too. I also recently got a couple of the 15 round PSA magazines for G43x. I've shot a few hundred rounds through them also without any issues. Although they say the Shield metal mag catch will wear out the plastic PSA mag catch area eventually, I have not seen any wear that concerns me (maybe after a few thousand rounds it'll show different), but they are cheap enough that even if the mag catch area wears out from the metal catch, I'd just buy new ones. I carry with the modified Shield Gen2 Mags just because I've had them far longer and never had any issues.

I have to say the 43x/48 has been one of the most fun projects I have done. The guns are very shootable. But, I can go extremely light weight or I can add a light and shield mags and have something comparable to a 19. I like it.

I have gen 1 and 2 s15 mags, no experience with the 3rd gen. Also have shield mag catch. The mags work fine. I don’t like that mags are released if you do much more than breathe on the mag release. But it’s a sample size of one, and I don’t think I’ve heard of others having that issue.

I have a slightly off topic question for those of you with the 43X/48 and the Shield mags. After replacing the Glock mag catch with the Shield steel one, and using a factory Glock mag, does the steel catch cause increased wear on the polymer mags? I haven’t picked up any Shield mags yet but was wondering if this could be a problem on the factory mag in the long run.

Pretty sure I read that the metal mag release will cause issues with plastic mags..eventually anyways. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I've read the same thing. Use only a metal catch with the S15 mags, only use the original plastic catch with Glock mags. I CCW my G-43X (with a Shield release) and two S15 mags, I also have two S15 mags that are range only. I have three or four OEM 10 rd mags that I no longer use.

Holy smokes, Shield Arms is already on Gen 3 of their S15 mags!!! Wonder what changes they made along the way???

Gen 3 has the spine on the front and the new bumps on the back to ensure the mag alignment stays consistent. IIRC, Gen 2 only had the front spine and could wobble a little, changing the feed angle.
