Well I wouldn’t have had the confidence to buy the TRP without yall vouching for it, I appreciate it! "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

My TRP has about 10k rounds through it & has been a reliable workhorse. The very first thing I did when I got it, even before it’s first trip to the range, was replace the full length guide rod with a Wilson GI type guide rod/flatwire spring/plug. I hate them things. If I were in the market for a mid price range 1911 now, I’d be looking at the Dan Wesson models. ------------------------------------------------ "It's hard to imagine a more stupid or dangerous way of making decisions, than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong." Yep. For the same price (or less) as a higher-end SA like a TRP, you can get a Dan Wesson, which will be a step up in quality. Dan Wesson is king of the $1000ish to $1500ish 1911 world.
I'm curious where you're seeing that. From what I'm finding, even the base level SA TRPs are $1200-$1300 online. You can get a Dan Wesson Valor, which is their "flagship"/top of the line model, for $1200-$1300 online. Same price point. Higher quality. And Dan Wesson has various other models from $1000-$1600ish, depending on what specific features you want.

I would love a Springfield Armory 1911. But I wouldn’t buy anything from Springfield Armory Inc. I’m not so good with forgive and forget, and I never liked the company to begin with. ------------------------------------------------ Charter member of the vast, right-wing conspiracy

Rogue...I’m a FFL. If there was a DW model similar to the TRP I would have looked more seriously at them, but again...they’re more money than the TRP cost me. Not to mention Dan Wesson’s are hit and miss on availability.

Ah. So SA's wholesale is lower than DW's wholesale. That makes sense. With online retail prices, they're comparable.

Yup, that and the DW models that appealed to me are either $200+ more or are special order (ie never in stock).

Just for the sake of argument, the Dan Wesson Specialist seems to have nearly identical features to the TRP: Government length .45 ACP with rail, ambi safety, magwell, G10 grips, 3 dot night sights, available in black or stainless.... https://danwessonfirearms.com/product/specialist/

Yes, I’ve seen that. In a non stainless finish it’s NOT available and more money "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I had the all Stainless GI model and really liked it. It fed my hand loads and ran well. I only sold it because Ruger came out with their 1911 and, well, RUGER. I have an EMP4 in 9mm, and while not a "true" 1911, it is a sweet shooter, and probably my favorite handgun. Incredibly reliable and scary accurate. I've been in the market lately for a 1911 in .45, and I've given the RO Operator a long look, as well as the Colt Competition model. I'd love a TRP, but not sure I can justify the price for what I'd use it for. I've also looked at Dan Wessons, but they're pretty much impossible to find locally, whereas every store in town had Springfields.

A brief sidebar re: the Dan Wesson Valor. As reported on the Forum by member RogueJSK in a separate thread (link below), DW has discontinued the Valor model. While they are apparently still available “in the wild,” they will continue to dwindle. A sad development, methinks. https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...350072254#1350072254 "The sea was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli." - George Costanza

I think you will be very pleased with your new Springfield! I know I have been very pleased with mine. I own three, a TRP, a V16 Longslide and a Loaded in 9mm. I looked at a Dan Wesson, but didn't like their lack of faith in their product with only a 5 year warranty. https://cz-usa.com/support/warranty/

Screw Springfield! The only Springfield 1911 I ever bought, an early RO it had the ILS system. I didn't know about the ILS system at the time when I bought it. Was not impressed at all what a absolutely silly way to build a 1911.

1911's: Dan Wesson, only Dan Wesson, all day, every day, all the time. There is no equal for the price! Just sayin'!

I've got both a TRP and a Valor. The Valor is prettier and tighter. The TRP is probably the better gun. It's definitely more accurate and didn't need a break in period to be reliable. I usually pull the ILS out of my Springfields. Eventually. It's not real high on my priority list. Really can't go wrong either way. Both are fine guns. One is a highly tuned sports car. The other is a monster truck.

I have only had experience with two 1911s. The first was a Sig Stainless 1911; I did not like it and had a malfuwith the safety where I had yo send it back to Sig. I then sold it to buy a Springfield SRT 1911. I have only shot probably 200 rounds through it, but it is a great gun and very accurate. With this gun it is the 1st time I have hit a bullseye with a pistol at 25 yards. NRA Benefactor Life Member

My SA Range Officer Elite Target in .45 has been 100% reliable and I like everything about the features it offers, especially for the price. Great trigger, nice sights, and exceptional accuracy rivalled only by my P220 Match Elite when compared to all the other .45s I've owned or tried over the years. The slide to frame fit and every other detail of the gun is exceptional. The only minor quibble I have with it is that I wish the grip safety bump was just ever so slightly less pronounced so you wouldn't notice it in the palm of your hand as much when shooting it, and the mags it comes with are pretty basic, but other than that it is a truly great pistol. -Dtech __________________________ "I've got a life to live, people to love, and a God to serve!" - sigmonkey "Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value." - Albert Einstein "A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition" ― Rudyard Kipling
