I came across a deal I couldn’t refuse at the local pawn shop. A collector offloaded his collection of High Standard autos and revolvers. They know I like 22 pistols so it was over before it started. This Sentinel is like new and comes with a good condition box for $375 out the door. The 72 hour countdown has begun. It’ll be easy to sell as a C&R if it doesn’t work out. Everything I read from contemporary reviews and online has been good. Not a Smith but solid at least. Anyone else have experience?

Many many years ago, a High Standard 22 bit me. Wasn't paying attention and it was the only time ever since that I had a true set of railroad tracks. My friend was shooting very well with it, from what I remember it was well made and I don't recall what model semi auto it was. I do thank the company for a life long reminder of where my hand is placed.

I bought one a few years ago, despite really not needing it. But I love High Standards ans always wanted to try one. Compared to something like a S&W 17 it's crude and crunchy. But they were meant to be a cheaper working man's gun. Tackle box guns. Mine shoots okay, but it shoots too high to be useful at what I hoped to use it for. (a light, beater small game gun) Curiosity fulfilled and hopes dashed, it's one I would get rid of cheap if doing so wasn't such a pain in the butt here.

My first handgun was the Sentinel MK IV, 22 mag with a 4" barrel. A friend of my father made custom rosewood, checkered grip for it. Fun to shoot and very accurate. I sold it last year and occasionally regret doing so.

My one complaint about the revolver is the stock grips. Got lucky and found out Dan Wesson 15-2 grips fit. You can get a nice looking set of checkered walnut grips for ~$50 so that’ll be a definite purchase. I

I also appreciate both .22lr firearms and High Standard products [including their shotguns]. The H.S. Sentinel Deluxe R106 was the first handgun I ever fired. My grandma used it to teach me safe handgun firing practices. I now own it, and a second one that was my mothers' revolver. Grandma was dad's side. Mom didn't know Grandma had that pistol and Grandma had no clue Mom had the same revolver. There is only one thing I'd warn about with this revolver, and it is the same warning as any FP on Hammer design revolver: wear Eye Protection!!! I was trying to use up some OLD .22lr ammo in it and had cases split with powder blasting back throug the frame [around the FP on the hammer] into my face. I was never so glad I had eye protection on. The same concern applies to a few of my other revolvers, but I have only experienced this issue in the Sentinel Deluxe.

The gun is definitely better quality than what you would find on contemporary revolvers. But, the DA is next to unusable compared to other current production revolvers. one will be getting sold off to fund another 22 revolver.
