Am I nuts for wanting one of these?

https://www.smith-wesson.com/p...10mm-m2-0-carry-comp

I had one of the early M&P 10mm 4” barrels and it was the most unreliable pistol I have ever owned. Two trips back to the factory, Galloway Precision recoil spring assembly, Apex extractor, Wolfe extra power magazine springs, Springer Precision extra power magazine springs and in addition to intermittent failures to feed, it would reliably fil to feed the second to last round in the magazine. It did not matter what type of ammo or how many rounds loaded, it would always fail on the second to last round. Disappointed because I really like the ergos, the size and the way the gun shot.

Moved on to the Sig XTen, both a 5” and a Comp. I now effectively own 2 paperweights as my indoor range has banned them. I do have a Glock Gen 5 20 that I’ve been working with to get into my carry rotation. While I shoot it fine, I’m just not in love with it.

Then I see Smith just came out with the Carry Comp in 10mm. I’m intrigued, like the idea but really Leary after my last experience with the 4” M&P 10mm.

You’re not crazy for wanting one. They are good guns - you just got a bad one. Simple as that.
I know that has left a bad impression on you.
10mm works well in these guns.
Hopefully, this one will be fine and you can enjoy it as I have enjoyed my M&Ps over the years.

The newer production is from Maryville Tennessee. Maybe these will have better QA?

Yeah, a little. Your last one was so bad it made ME not want one, and I've never even met you or handled the gun. IIRC you loaned that thing out to some other guys and they couldn't make it work, either, so it wasn't just you. I'd be really hesitant to pour any more money down the M&P hole after that experience, especially when you've already got the Sigs and a Glock 20 that work.

It's your money, time, and ammo so if you can afford it and have just gotta try it then go for it. But to me it seems a little like breaking up with a crazy abusive ex and then moving on to date her sister because she's younger and hotter.

Smiths QC seems to be 50/50 right now. If you can live with those odds why not.

I have a G20 Gen 5 MOS I like. And a non MOS Gen 4 G29. I am tempted to try the Springfield ED-M Elite. My luck with Springfield has been really good!

After fondling the Gen 6 G45. I’ll quickly pick up a Gen 6 G20 when they come out.

jljones says the odds are 50:50.

Not saying it can't work out, just that if it came from the same parents and grew up in the same trailer, the chances of similar behavior are high Big Grin!

If it was metal framed, I would be all over it. I just picked up a new shotshow release steel frame 5" M&P and it seems really well made but the trigger is awful.

Timney makes a very good M&P trigger that is priced right. Highly recommend.
Plus… their marketing director is a good ‘ol West-by-God Virginia boy.

The M&P has been a very solid platform for me over the years, I’d like to have one in 10mm.

After 2.5 weeks my 19 is back. 100 rounds through it. No issues.
