Beretta 92 or a SIG P226 or the compact versions (92 compact / P228) Not sure I consider it in the vein of the “wonder nines” but a P7M13 would be high on my personal list. The CZ75. It was the only 9mm recommended by Jeff Cooper, but rare in this country at the time due to the Cold War still going on. In addition, it was, and can still be had in, all steel. For smaller hands/shorter fingers I recommend a de-cocking version. | |||

I own and enjoy them all but- Beretta 92FS with D spring for best trigger and accuracy in my hands SIG P226 for home defense because the slide is easiest to manipulate out of the bunch S&W 5903 for a little smaller size and grip and a little less weight and easiest to carry for me CZ-75/EAA Witness/etc for best ergos and smallest grip, steel frame is nice for range work but the small grip area of the slide means it's my last choice for self defense | |||

Oh, No. I forgot to indicate a measure of sarcasm. I bought a used one, shot it enough to know it was flawed, and sold it for more than I paid. As I said, the GB is great on paper. In practice, it is a finicky turd. If you want a gas brake pistol that runs, HK made one for a spell. People have certainly found reasons to complain about those too, but they are actually quality firearms. Gunbroker should never be used as a true measure of value. But just for some perspective, if you bid on one now you'll pay more than I did, nearly 20 years ago. I do think they are interesting, and a notable piece of firearms history. Otherwise a failure. The "wonder 9" is a period of innovation that I don't think we'll see a modern equivalent of. With hands your size I've gotta say Beretta 92 or a P226. You won't go wrong with either, but personally I prefer the trigger and the decocker's manual of arms on the Sig. I do like the positioning of the slide release on the Beretta better. | |||

Just lucked into a new in the box first Accokeek run of the Beretta 92 FS Vertec. Put a D spring in, a Wilson steel guide rod, and this pistol shoots as smooth and accurate as any 9mm I have had. I really forgot how much i like Berettas. So, Beretta 92 FS is one of those can't go wrong choices. | |||

Decisions, decisions...if just one, Beretta 92. Medium-large hands, average fingers here and the 92 should be too large for me but it isn't. That said; if you have an indoor range handy that rents various arms for folks to try out, give them a few visits and try all of the above recommendations from the guys. And then try the Gen 1 Glock 17. | |||

Any 3rd Gen S&W, I have a 5906, 3913 and CS9 so I’ve got different sizes covered, next choice would be a 226 | |||

Beretta 92 FS 1st, SIG P226 second, S&W 5906 3rd. I definitely prefer the Beretta to the SIG. If we were talking new and currently available I’d choose the 5906 over the SIG as well, but since the 3rd Gen. Smiths have been out of production for so long now and parts aren’t available through S&W anymore the SIG would be my second choice given the fact that this is your only wonder 9 at this time. “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.
