Fighting the good fight |
Well, if it's a cheap old school hammer-fired 9mm you're after, Aim Surplus has LE trade-in 5946s (the DAO version of the 5906) for $400: https://aimsurplus.com/product...24&mc_cid=ed22d7a511 And spare mags for $25: https://aimsurplus.com/product...-9mm-magazine-nickel

Curious why not a 75B? No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Big hands, Wonder 9? to me that sings Beretta 92 all day long. Don't get me wrong, I think the P226 is a better pistol but they bring a premium price over a Beretta 92. A nice used Beretta 92FS in gun shops around me runs $450-500. A nice used Sig 226 usually runs between $600-700. Mags are cheap, lots of holster options. Can't go wrong with a Beretta 92. Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six

Love the S&W 5906, I even had the IDPA PC version with the Briley Bushing. Problem is Smith does not support them anymore with parts or mags so every time i see a nice used one i am tempted but pass for this reason. For those who like the Beretta, but the grip is too big, try the vertec version. With the exception of the dovetail front sight, and the grip, its a 92FS. It also has a rail like the M9A1

Yep, this is a great point! Or get the new 92X which gives you both grip options via interchangeable grip panels.

Thanks. "Service Weapons", be it SIG, Beretta, HK, S&W, CZ, FN, Ruger, etc., old school or even some new school, are always worth considering. You see a lot of Star, EAA Witness and others come to the forefront as the classics are quietly sitting in safes. However, at some point, I feel those will become available with generational turnover, assuming they aren't "lost".

I love the old school 3rd gen Smiths. That being said, I had to remove the mag safeties because I hate them. It’s a pain in the ass. You have to remove the rear sight to do it. Dumb. Also I’ve never had a trigger on them be as good as the Berettas out of the box. Like above, if grip sizes an issue get a Vertec. Preferably a 92X. They have nailed the trigger on the new 92X’s.

I'll throw my .02 in here and join the choir with 92F. I have two, plus a 92S that's just for looking at.
