Been thinking about these lately. What's your favorite double-stack 9mm 1911?

My preferences:
- commander or full size
- no rail
- not overly heavy
- slim grips

Of course, bushing-less would be great also, but not essential.

Added: Availability of a threaded barrel would be a hoot, too.

Phone's ringing, Dude.

I really love my Stealth Arms Platypus in 5" 1/2 rail.

I'm trying a Springfield Prodgy full size with comp as a range toy. Quite a bit less money than some of the high end guns. So far, zero issues. Very accurate.

I have a full stable of these, more for race guns, but I do have few I'm trying for EDC since my muscle memory is heavily slanted this way. I have:

STI, SVI/Infinity, Triangle Shooting Sports, Akai Custom, Hayes Custom, Legion Precision, Staccato, Springfield Prodigy and a few STI framed gunsmith custom builds. By far, my favorites are from Hayes Custom - a .40 Limited Custom and a Cobra.

It's crazy how much the full custom builds have escalated over the years. My Akai open gun was 4X the price of my first custom STI-based build.

My kid still has his Platypus that takes Glock mags and it works fine. Kinda thick.

I presonally have been looking at the Kimber KDS9C which is a 15rd 4.09" barrel sized gun (no rail option available) and a Wilson Combat version, not sure which one yet, they have different grip types, one with panels and one without.

Not minority enough!

Gents,

Purchased a Prodigy. Decent pistol, no issues. Spare mags are pricey. It doesn't handle like a standard 1911 in .45 ACP or .38 Super. To me a 1911 in 9mm is a waste of money. The .38 Super outperforms 9mm by a substantial margin.

I have a couple, All seem to come with a rail anymore.

Wilson and Staccto are nice but spendy. The Staccto C2 is very light.
Platypus definitely sounds interesting and you can order it just how you want it I believe.
