Will a barrel for a newer P229 barrel fit into a West German P228? I think it will, but can anyone confirm?

As long as it's not a P229-1 barrel, it will work. Sig still sells the original 9mm P229/P228 barrels on their website, and I recently bought one to fix a headspace issue in my old surplus P228. It works like a charm. I couldn't tell you if they have threaded barrels in stock though.

They changed the dimensions for the newer P229-1, so barrels for those will not work in your P228.

This is the model BBL-229-1-9-T

So I guess that means it won't work. Thanks for the info.

You are correct, that won't work.

Try this one: https://www.sigsauer.com/barre...28-9mm-threaded.html

The 229-1 barrel works in the P228. The P228 barrel will not work in the P229-1 (aka E2), however. I tested this years ago, when the M11-A1 first came out. Used its barrel in of my P228s, and it fit and fired just fine. The reason for this test was, at the time, there was a shortage of P228 barrels, and I wanted to see if you can use the 229-1 barrel in a pinch.

ETA pics, so you guys don't think I'm just BS'ing.

I tried it today as well. The barrel out of my P229-1 does indeed fit, and seems to lock up properly in my P228. The reverse did not work, as the P229 slide would not go back on its frame with the P228 barrel installed. I did not try shooting the gun with the barrels swapped, but based on how it fit I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't work.

All that said, were it me and if I didn't already have the barrel, I'd opt to buy the one designed for the gun that I have, seeing as both types are still available from Sig. Nice to know that the P229-1 barrel is an option in a pinch, though.

Long ago (and far away) I got a complete 228 minus the actual frame. So I tried to put the 228 slide/barrel on my 229. Wouldn't go on. BUT when I swapped out the locking blocks, the 228 went right on and fired fine. I have since returned the guns to their original slides, and that 228 parts kit eludes me as I would like to make s 228 with one of the frames made by Revenant Arms.

There's a reason for that, explained HERE.

That was the reason for my testing at the time.

I'm sure your P229 was the one with the long external extractor slide and 229-1 barrel, and that is why you needed to swap in the P228 locking insert for the P228 upper assembly to work. If it was the old Legacy P229(9), you wouldn't have had to swap locking inserts.

Thanks for all the info. If I can get the barrel I was looking at for a good deal I will try it. This barrel is threaded which is what I was looking for.
