So I have spent a lot of time over the past few years with itty bitty striker fired stuff with some of my normal defensive HK's thrown in. As such I have neglected some of the other stuff. So I have been making an effort to get some of my other stuff out to the range. I've had some Beretta's out (love em') and I've even recently had out my Walther P5. Today however I brought out some REAL guns. ![]() ![]() Truth be told its probably been like 5 years since I have shot .357 magnum. Like most folks I've run some .38 but its been a while for .357 Maggie. I think the range officer found it funny that I went from "der loudenboomer" to the itty bitty pip squeak. Couple of things of note. I ran all 130 rounds double action. The D/A on the Smith 17 is HEAVY and if I am honest, after spending so much time with strikers my finger/hand was getting a wee bit fatigued towards the end of those 130 rounds. ![]() One other thing is while I tend to like my revolvers with "pretty grips" whether they be wood or G10 I just have never found a set for this 5 inch 627 that worked for me. The gun is a little front heavy. The basic, ugly ass, Hogue monogrip is perfect on it though. It balances the gun out nicely and is super comfortable to grip. They are ugly but damn if they don't always work well. It was nice to run some some good ole' .357 magnum and some "real guns" for once. ![]() ![]() Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Nice guns! I also like the Hogue monogrip on my revolvers, fits my hand perfectly. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." A couple of awesome choices if I do say so myself. I find myself gravitating towards revolvers as much as any autoloader these days.

Wheel guns are real guns. Been acquiring ammo to go shoot some single action 44s and 45 soon. Just got in the Buffalo bore 255 gr 44 spl ammo. ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! Glock Certified Armorer NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

Nice guns and nice shooting! I do quite a bit of DA revolver carrying and shooting and when those go the range, a K22 is always along for the ride. FWIW, I once had a S&W 627 Pro Series. Very similar to your stainless gun but with a 4-inch barrel. I tried several different grips but nothing worked as well for me with that gun than the rubber Hogue Monogrip that came with it. I put about 150 rounds of 357 mag through my Python today (plus 200 of 5.56 in the AR) I enjoyed both!

I’m with ya CSlinger, I own a few polymer guns. Recently got into revolvers, though not all are “classic”. I still have some polymer, mostly the LCP, SR22, P322, things of that nature. But for centerfire I’m all about wood and steel. Maybe some G-10 where applicable ![]() 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!
