Not to derail the thread, but can you elaborate on this? I have a model 19 that I only had for a day that went back for light primer strikes on all brands of ammo. And strain screw depth was not the problem.

Jones, that was one of the problems on my son’s gun, M10 Classic.
After getting it back from Smith, it still had light primer strikes so I put in a Cylinder & Slide extended firing pin along with a reduced power spring and that cured the issue. His other complaint was the excessive gritty shitty trigger action. While it was apart I detailed the rough areas of the action to take off the slag. The particular area the caused the most friction was the frame window cutout where the hand passes through to advance the cylinder. It was terrible how rough it was. That solved the issue for him.

Next was an M&P340 which set me back the better part in $1k.
Right out of the box the first trigger pull the trigger wouldn’t snap back to reset, and was jammed to the rear. I’d have to force it forward to reset. I dry fired it quite a bit, and figured the rebound spring was under sprung. So popped off the side plate and put in an extra power spring and the action still sucked but it would at least return and function to operate. I went to my range and at about 10yds the “group” was almost off the Q Target to the left. I noticed the front barrel shroud was cocked far to the left.
Sent the gun to Smith after a long and detailed conversation about the misalignment of the barrel shroud cover and the crap action.
When the gun returned they did NOTHING to it and stated something to the effect that they inspected it and it was “in spec”.
I remember calling to discuss it again and was told basically it’s a close range gun and to live with it.

I tossed the gun into the box and stuck it on a shelf in my shop and said to hell with it.
Anyway, about a year later I was thinking about that useless little gun and I called Smith.
The fellow was very helpful and it was escalated to a Senior Mgr. I sent him pics and he promised to make it right.

Well the gun came back again, nothing was done with the action and the barrel sleeve was indeed moved more to center, but still noticeably off center/left.
Can you imagine being a Factory Gunsmith taking the effort to unscrew the barrel and NOT properly timing the shroud sleeve? Fucking jackasses.

Called again, spoke to Se Mgr again, no joy.
I ended up stripping it to the frame and doing an action job myself.

Next up is the Bodyguard 2.0.
Sights severely off in the dovetails, and would barely feed ball ammo.
Sent to to Smith, it came back with the front sight untouched and the rear cranked all the way to the side of the dovetail. And the frame feed ramp (the early models had a little lump that was causing issues) was untouched.
I just shook my head and fixed it myself. Dressed the frame ramp and then blended the barrel feed ramp. Oh, and the early models also had the barrel feed ramps that were not symmetrical. The right side was misshaped which I blended. I put on a set ox XS Sights when they came out and the gun runs fine now.

I apologize for the long rant…. But you asked

The fact that it's a $500 makes me not care about it getting dirty or wet in the field vs a beautiful S&W at $1,200 I'll say.

Yeah, I definitely hear that!

Still waiting on my orders with my dealer for the 686 Mountain Gun and 617 Mountain Gun. I do have my 610 Mountain Gun which I love. It did have a couple of dings against it; grips did not fit the back strap and had to be sanded down after taking a chunk out of the web of my hand and had light primer strikes due to the strain screw being way too far out.

Always liked the Night Guard series and happy to see it back especially without the lock. I’ll put an order in with my dealer as soon as he’s back from SHOT for a 386. I’ll probably get the Cylinder and Slide fixed sight for it as well. Really hoping for the 610 and 625 variants. Always wanted one and when they come up on Gunbroker they go for absolutely stupid prices.

Picked up a new 586 on a trade this week. The QC on it is very good. About 300 rounds of 5 different types of ammo in.

No issues.

My lgs has 2 of the NG revolvers. They are proud of them and I can't get past the lock.

Now that S&W has proven that they can still make lock less revolvers I won't ever buy another lock gun (I only bought one anyway).

Plus I think the new ones at 3" are the sweet spot in length.

That’s good to hear!
Did they get your 19 straightened out?

Hasn’t come back yet. I’m afraid to have very high hopes.
