When I was growing up, the Security Six/Speed Six was considered to be the poor man’s Smith model 19. No telling how many I saw bought/traded in the $100 range. Saw one in a gun shop recently at $800.

Would love to pick one up. Prices they go for these days make that unlikely. Good buy OP should serve you well.

If you are a shooter for pleasure you absolutely need a revolver or more. There is just something so satisfying about them. The “clockwork” mechanics, the loading that slows things down a bit allowing you more time to enjoy the whole process of handling and shooting, the inherent accuracy of the fixed barrel, the ability to go from powder puff spit wads to crazy butt stomping cruise missile rounds and the aesthetics and personalization of the whole thing. Every “gun geek” needs a revolver. If you just want a self defense weapon and just want to “train” grab a piece of tactical Tupperware and rock on but if you can “appreciate” shooting for the sake of shooting a good revolver is very satisfying. I've always like the lines of the Ruger "sixes" but never owned one. Enjoy it. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Bought my Security-Six in 1976 as did my buddy. When we picked them up, they were consecutive serial numbers. I can't tell you how many rounds have been through that pistol, but it still shoots great! I've since bought a GP-100 in 2010, and it's been just as impressive! I'll go with Ruger any day!

I have both the Ruger Security Six and the S&W 19... the 19 is by far a better handgun but that is not to put down the Ruger... in fact until last year I owned two. but I have a female friend who needed a good handgun and can not rack the slide on a semi-auto and so I gave her my 4" Security Six. Oh and I paid I think $150 for each of mine...but it was at least 20 years ago.... My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

Many years ago I purchased a Ruger Gp100, four inch to carry wile living in Phoenix,AZ. Within their first year they were offered. After meeting a gentleman who open carried a single six , I asked him about recoil a 2nd shot ability. He explained +p .38 special loads to me. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

Can’t go wrong with a Ruger Security, Service or Speed Six. GP100 or the SP101 series for that matter as well. Just never did happen across a Speed Six at a time that I had gun money. Enjoy your fine revolver purchase.

Very cool! Congratulations on the pickup ![]() My very first center-fire handgun was my 4 in. barrel Ruger Security Six in .357 Mag: Had a local smith tune the trigger and custom-fit those grips for me. (I have very large hands and the original grips didn't suit me. [I still have them, of course.].) Butter smooth in DA and breaks like glass in SA at 4½ lbs. (If memory serves. I should put my shiny new gauge on it.) I bought mine in 1976 as well! Do yours' have this on the left side plate? "America is at that awkward stage. My Ruger Sixes.. Security Six (Made in the 200th Year of American Liberty), Police Service Six and Speed Six. The Speed is my favorite. ![]() We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution. The Ruger Six series is a great line of revolvers. Have a couple of Security Sixes and a Police Service Six. Never did find a Speed Six when I had gun money. As prices went higher and higher, I kinda quit looking. Outstanding revolvers. Good choice! Enjoy.

Always wanted a Speed Six in 9mm. Came across a few, but could not justify the cost for what I would do with it besides just look at it and relish that it was mine.

That was my first centerfire handgun when I was 14. I ran across one in my LGS 2 weeks ago, LNIB, with instruction manual. I told the guy to write it up. He asked if I wanted to know the price, and I said yes but didn't really care. I'm a good customer, so he let me have it for a ridiculously low price. I'll shoot 38's, and have no interest in modifying it at all. Congrats! Great find.
