Too expensive. Buy a worn out, rebuilt gun for more than the price of a quality new one. No thanks. Rolan Kraps SASS Regulator Gainesville, Georgia. NRA Range Safety Officer NRA Certified Instructor - Pistol / Personal Protection Inside the Home

Nope. The math did not add up. "I’m not going to read Time Magazine, I’m not going to read Newsweek, I’m not going to read any of these magazines; I mean, because they have too much to lose by printing the truth"- Bob Dylan, 1965

I can’t remember the exact number off the top of my head but it’s pretty close to a grand I think. Maybe a little more

The window for sending in the order starts on sept 4 and ends a month later. There are certainly plenty of cheaper 1911’s on the market for general use that will serve that purpose just fine. However if you want an example of THE gun that defeated enemies world wide with rock solid provenance as a usgi pistol with the history that goes with that, it is actually a fair deal. A unmolested usgi 1911A1 in decent shape is in the price range they are selling them for

I carried one for my first six years in the Army. I’d like one, but $1,000 for a 30 to 40 year old worn 1911......nope. My CMP M-1 Garand was only $400 and my 1903A1 was $600. I hope they drop the prices to around the $500 mark, then I might pick one up as a collector piece.

Nope here as well. I don't like that a C&R gun can't ship to my C&R. I'd endure the hassle if they were cheaper. I have thought of building one though

Oh stewardess, I speak jive. |
The combination of price, age/condition, and buying sight-unseen is too much for me. I was issued these in my tank unit back in the late 80s, early 90s. They worked, but were janky. It would be one thing if I could rummage through a room full and pick one myself... I'll probably wait and buy a known thing later, and eat the cost difference, but only on the right combination of form, function, and price. It can't just be a paperweight for me. It has to be a useful shooter and look good (enough), and not be some weird mismatched parts gun with no particularly interesting history or something you wouldn't carry.

Glorious SPAM! |
If I didn't already own a nice 1944 Remington Rand I would. I paid $1100 for mine over ten years ago. I don't think $1K for the top grade is bad at all. You don't buy one of these becasue you want a "shooter". You buy a Rock Island if you want a cheap 1911. You buy one of these because they are a piece of history.

My question is will they in fact be unmolested? I can't find it quickly, but I'm pretty sure that they go through these guns and sort and repair as needed. You may get a gun with newer parts, etc. IF these were all "unmolested", serviceable, with good provenance, then $1000 would certainly be a fair price.

The 1911’s we had in the service were rattly and sounded like a rock in a 55 gallon drum, but the one I always checked out was a good shooter. But there is no way I’m throwing a grand at a pistol that has been reworked several times.... I’ll buy a nice Sig or a Ruger or a fancy STImade ona CNC machine for that kind cash "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. Heinlein “You may beat me, but you will never win.” sigmonkey-2020 “A single round of buckshot to the torso almost always results in an immediate change of behavior.” Chris Baker

I like the idea of owning a piece of American history and have my CMP paperwork ready to go. (Then again, I’m also drawn to a FN PS90 5.7x28 rifle to match an expected hand-me-down FN 5.7 pistol one day but I digress...) Patina is one thing, but worn-out is another. If I’m lucky enough to get a higher-end CMP 1911, would it be sacrilege to get work done on it? Not re-finishing, but maybe action work and such?
