Never saw a SP5 in FDE before today. It was just weird enough to bring home. Big Grin

And you still haven't. That's RAL8000. Wink Razz

Ha, I was wondering what the RAL8000 on the box label meant. No idea it was the color. Thanks! I like it even more now. I need to brush up on my tacticool reading. Smile

“Baby poop brown” is another unofficial name for the RAL!

Enjoy the SP5…hopefully we see the SHORT Act go through soon and you can add a proper A3 stock and save some hostages!

Congrats on the new toy. I don't mind the color and you can always change some parts to break up the color scheme if you want.

Haha, yeah, HK went and made their own shade of brown because, well... HK. Razz

It is a cool setup, though. I've got a friend who has one and pics don't really seem to capture the color correctly. Fun gun, indeed. Enjoy. Smile

Sweet! They are super fun. Are you going to put a matching stock on it?

HK didn't make it, just adopted it. RAL 8000 has been in the Reichs-Ausschuß für Lieferbedingungen color catalogue for almost a century.

In fact, RAL 8000 was used by the Afrika Korps during WW2 for painting their tanks in North Africa.

Not sure. I had a Zenith MKE 8 or 10 years ago. Someone offered silly money, so I sold it. I know I still have a box of accessories laying around somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. Might end up with some black furniture since the MKE was black. I'm not going to go crazy trying to match the brown since it'll end up different colors anyway. The plastic and steel are already two different colors. It's got black pins, sights, and mag release hardware, so more black should be OK.

Yeah, I'd put a black foreend and black stock/brace on it.

You're not going to match RAL 8000 with any US-made furniture.

A few mods before any more range time for the SP5:

  • The triangle factory forearm is an accident waiting to happen. It is slick, with no hand stop, and tapered to the front. When running it with just a single point sling and no brace, putting forward tension on the sling to stabilize the weapon slides your weak side hand toward the muzzle. No bueno, replaced.

  • It’s a fun gun, so I wanted to try it with a brace. Put this SB one on to use for now that came off of a MKE Z5 I had years ago. I will probably change it to accept a tailhook folder, but I need to wait for this month’s SS check. There seems to be a little gun fund shortage at the moment for some reason.

  • Micro- compensator. Doesn’t do much but it looks cooler than the thread protector it comes with from the factory.

  • It’s a fun gun. Top rail and red dot seemed like a good idea.

Since I’m going shooting anyway, no sense in bringing just one so, my other fun gun is coming too.
