Pricing on mags and pistols as of late...

Is the P6/225 becoming the new P7?

It appears they are at least on their way haha…

As a recent “re-convertee” to the original P225, I was happy that the folks I purchased the pistols from on this forum either included a generous supply of mags and / or offered some additional ones up for sale.

Edited to clarify: my comments above refer to the magazines specifically. Both the 225s I’ve found here recently were, to me, impressively well-priced.

FWIW, I gave ProMag P225 mags a chance and couldn’t get them to work consistently. I wish Mec-Gar was an option for this gun - I love their Browning Hi Power magazines and used their P228 mags a lot a few years back.

The P225 will never become like the P7, although the mags may be somewhat pricey.

Approximately 150,000 P7's were made.
I can't guess as to how many 225's were made.
The Forum serial #'s go from 400-001 thru 675-700.

I would say the P6 is following the in the path of P7.

Both are very cool old-school pistols, and the factory test targets on mine prove they are accurate. I paid over twice for the P7 years ago, and think it would still bring that. P6/P225 mags can easily be fabricated by modifying readily available and inexpensive Walther P38/P1 magazines. They stick out a bit from the bottom of the grip, but work fine for range mags. Robertson Trading Post sells them, but it only takes a few minutes to modify them.

Sorry, the P225 is a superlative pistol, but the P7 is in a class of its own.

Prices in my estimation recognize the popularity and demand for an item and the P-225/P-6 sure seem to have been going up for quite a while. All added up there are few if any negatives to the P-225/P-6 . No doubt a couple extra Sig factory mags will add a premium to the price of the pistol but it's doubtful you would ever lose money if you were ever to resell the pistol and mags in the future.

I know that I personally love Sig for coming out with a new P225 mag that doesn’t work in the old Sig P225. And I’m not the least bit surprised they did that.

That's b/c despite its name, the P225-A1 was based off the P239.

Agreed. While P225 production totals may be on the lower side when compared to the plethora of P226's manufactured, the P225 does not stand alone as a unique design. The P7 however checks so many boxes it is truly a modern classic.

Yes, and it’s stupid, and I’m not at all surprised by it.

I probably should have been more clear. Since the P1/P38 has a heel catch, I had to modify my P1 mags by cutting a small notch in them aligned with the magazine catch in my P225 to retain them. It just took a few minutes for each one - otherwise they are stock and work fine.

HK P-7 been desirable/collectable for a number of years. The P series West German Sigs from the 1970s to the early 1990s are now entering the same territory. I could of gone with either one at the time but decided to go with the Sig P-225, in hindsight still an excellent choice with no regrets. As for Sig factory P-225 mags saw the writing on the wall and stocked up when prices were at least "reasonable" if not cheap.

Interesting. I've wondered what the next P7 could be. I've always been attracted to the single stack. There's lots of p6 mags out there but they don't take up much room. I'm glad to have a few. Who knows, A nice p225 with a few mags might be more attractive than a P7.
