I didn’t get to shoot it, but I did get to stare at it for a few minutes.

On a whim, I stopped in at a pawn shop on the way home from work. I didn’t expect to see any SIGs at all, and found four: this P6, a P226 Legion in .40, a P230, and a P229 in .357SIG.

I’ve never seen a P6 before, other than in pictures, and this one seemed pretty well-kept. It has certainly seen some use, as there are some definite wear marks on it, but it didn’t look “beat and abused.”

I didn’t bring it home, but it was somewhat tempting.

What was the asking price, out of curiosity?

If I remember correctly, it was $549. I neglected to get pics, and I apologize for that.

I regert not buying a couple 25 ish years ago when they were everywhere for $350

Bit steep IMO especially with visible wear. But times have changed. Not many new pistols as cool as a P6 for 5 bills.

I stumbled into a 1992 P225 on another forum for $550. I couldn't refuse & hopefully it will be at my FFL's tomorrow. Can't remember the last one I saw out in the wild.

I use to have a P6 I think I picked-up for around $400 back in the mid 2000's. Don't remember what happened to that gun?

No pistol I looked at today was under $500. Darnit.

These guys had several long guns I wanted, too, but no real bargains. An old 870 in the rack has me giving the piggy bank a bit of the side-eye, though.

Definitely pick up the factory small parts kit when you can.

The P225 was the first SIG that I ever owned, and I've had quite a few of them, and several P6s. I'm down to one and that one will be with me until I die. IMHO, it's the best SIG ever made! The only real downside I see to them is the price of additional magazines... YIKES!!!

I had a P225 years ago and it was a fantastic pistol, although a little large for ccw being a single stack magazine. It functioned perfectly and felt great in the hand. The P6, which is pretty much a P225 with a couple differences, is a neat gun but you really have to check it out to make sure it was not abused on the inside of the gun. I had a P6 as well but it had some issues with jhp ammo not feeding well, which is somewhat common, due to it's feed ramp.

I've got 4 or 5 P6s, all bought for $300-$350 around 2007 or so. They were all over at the time, blue plastic box, couple of mags, some came with a leather holster that hung on a swivel. All had external wear from being carried, but showed little actual firing use.

Really heavy trigger pull. If I remember correctly I changed out the springs and the strut-wasn't too difficult for a lot of improvement.

I love my SIG P6! Good size, accurate, I put night sights on mine. It's a great carry pistol.

I just wish that I had more magazines.

My son and I both have a P6 like honestlou describes. Purchased 2006-2007 ish, dated 1982
We like how the classic Federal 9BP JHP ammo works with an unmodified feed ramp.

Picked up a 1998 P6 with cardboard box, target and 6 Sig mags for $700. Firearm shows expected holster wear and ridiculously clean internals - looks like it was rarely shot. Changed out the mainspring to 19# and the thing is a tack driver. Part of the CCW rotation.

Yes Ace31 the P6 has hollow point feed issues. The original build in most feed ramp designs from that era was for FMJ. Some brands of hollow points today feed fine due to their ogive. I like the Hornady ballistic tips for my P6, never a hiccup, knock on wood. YMMV

The P6 ended production in 89'. In 88' the P225 received an update (feed ramp geometry) to work with HP ammo. 88'-89' produced P6's also received this update.

I've got a late 70's 220 in 9mm. I'm assuming it has an older style feed ramp, as it doesn't look the same as my newer Sigs. I've fed Federal HST (147 & 124 gr.) through it without a problem. And Rem. 115 gr. HP.

If you have a pre-88' P6, just buy a few different boxes of quality HP and test them in your gun.

Early ones did, then at some point around 1980 the angle of the feed ramp was changed to fix the issue.

The last P6 that I had was a 1979 coded and it fed JHP ammo just fine, and it was supposedly before the modification! Likely was due to what brand ammo I was using in it; don't remember now what it was, but it had a more rounded ogive than others. The current Hornady Critical Defense with conical shape should feed just fine.
