My wife and I are headed to Glock on Monday to have the frame on my 2nd gen Glock 19 replaced. I have no idea how a piece broke off the frame but it did and Glock will only replace it with a 3rd gen frame. I guess the light rail will be nice but this weapon has been utterly reliable for the many years I have had it. I have always wanted to visit Georgia and the wife and I needed a break after going through what we did with our dog. We have never been to Georgia and will enjoy our trip, especially restaurants in the Smyrna, Atlanta areas. I am sure the weapon will still be reliable and is due for new night sights as well. Not sure what else they offer but will see. This message has been edited. Last edited by: whododat, Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

When I first started visiting the Smyrna facility in the early 1990s, you just drove into the parking lot and walked up to the door, which was locked. There was a receptionist sitting to the left of the door, who could see you through the door and through the glass partition she was behind. If you didn't look like you were there to rob the place, she buzzed you in. The reception room was small, smaller than a moderate home living room. Fake wood paneling, a couple of posters on the walls. There was a small card table and a couple of folding chairs. This was where you sat when you filled out any needed paperwork, and the technician would sit with you to discuss matters. Later on, a couch was added. Glock eventually put in a gate. As soon as you pulled off Highlands Pkwy, there was the gate and a guard booth to your left. You stopped, the guard came out and inquired as to your business. If you had a pistol, they took it, recorded the serial number, copied your ID, put a cable tie through the magazine well, and let you in. They also gave you a visitor's badge. On the way out, you once again stopped at the gate, the guard removed the cable and took the visitor's badge. When the reception area was moved from 7000 Highlands Pkwy to 6200, the reception area was once again cramped for a time. This was when I had the excellent customer service encounter I've mentioned a couple of times. Glock had just moved into that space and it was a bit of a mess. The "move" was nothing more than Glock changing the door you would enter. It's about 150 feet down the building. I was over there last month. Glock has gotten all fancy shmansy. ![]() The gate, which was parallel to the roadway, is now perpendicular to the road. You pull off the road, make a left turn and stop at the gate. The guard booth is now to your right. The guard comes out, you're asked your business and all the rest- cable tie, visitor's badge. Additionally, they've started recording your license plate number and the make, model and year of your vehicle. I have to say that the guard I encountered this last visit was the only discourteous person I've encountered in my 30+ years of visiting this facility. I'll leave out the details except to say that I get the feeling somebody really wanted to be a cop but didn't pass muster for whatever reason. It may sound silly, but I feel privileged to witness the evolution of Glock's Smyrna facility over the years. ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023

Para doesn’t Glock also rebuild your mags if you bring them. Maybe limited to 2-3 mags.

I believe so, yes. I once had a feeding issue with one of the magazines of my early production G43. The last round out of the magazine ended up with its nose against the roof of the chamber hood. Looking at the -2 version of the G43 magazine, I noticed Glock had modified the follower to present rounds at more of an up-angle. I called Glock and asked them if they would be willing to replace my no-dash mags and they said sure. I sent, I think, four magazines, might have even been five, but I think it was at least four, and they sent me -2 magazines as replacement. In the lead-up to the 1994 AWB, you couldn't find Glock magazines anywhere. I called Glock out of frustration and I was told that if I slid on by, they would sell me three or four magazines. This was right after the introduction of the drop-free magazine design, and they were not to be found anywhere. So, I visited Glock and persuaded the rep to sell me five drop-free G19 magazines. A couple of days later, I had my wife (who was then my girlfriend) go by Glock and purchase four G17 mags. Man, I felt as if I had won the lottery.

By the way, whododat, your third generation frame will have a G-prefix serial number, indicating it as a replacement. Now that you'll have a rail, get yourself a Streamlight TLR-7X. You'll love it. Also while you're there, Glock will install night sights for you at a reasonable price. You can get the Glock-branded Meprolights for 67.00 plus tax, or Ameriglos for 100 plus tax. Go with the Glock night sights. That's a great deal. Also, if you just want steel sights, I think Glock charges 27.00.

It's a bummer to hear your Gen 2 frame had a failure. I have a soft spot for the Gen 2 19, having owned two and still have one of them, which was my first Glock. I wish that Glock would replace Gen 2's that break with the current generation instead of a 3, but I get why they do that. Hey, you can have any one of a host of companies laser stipple it for you, so there's that! Definitely take a handful of your most beat up magazines with you, you'll probably come home with new Gen 5 mags as replacements. I hope you have a memorable trip. Let us know how it goes. ![]() ______________________________________________ Endeavoring to master the art of the grapefruit spoon.

years ago I sent in a dozen mixed gen Glock 21 mags and they replaced them all with new gen4 mags. No charge. Teo years ago I had some magazine issues (like seven mags) where rounds wouldn't come up. You'd eject the mag and see rounds stuck then tap the baseplate and rounds would fly out past the feed lips. They promptly replaced those and said send in the bad mags in the box we send you new mags in. Return label will be in the box. My gen2 19 is still running strong. I gave it to my mom (well, she borrowed it over a decade ago and hasn't returned it) and she shoots once a month with it when my brother and sister take her to the range. Not minority enough!

Thank you all. I will be going through my mags now. Para, it def needs new sights so I just might get the steel rear Glock sight and a night sight front one. These old eyes need a little more to focus on. I will let you all know how it goes. Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

They may not be able to mix and match sights, depending upon sight heights, but maybe they can. It doesn't hurt to ask.

I haven't been there but Glock sent me a prepaid shipping label when my Gen3 G23C frame broke a rail/tab, and replaced the frame and all internals. Sent me back the old guts and the new complete frame. Great service. --------------------------- My hovercraft is full of eels.

That's actually pretty cool that a manufacturer, in this case Glock, allows anyone from off the street to come into their business and help them with their needs/gun problems at that moment. Very refreshing. Are there any other manufacturers that do that in this day and age? Especially for older products.

Install this, replace the backplate with a Gen 5 and it will work. But like I said, I get why they don't do this from the factory, because those aren't factory parts. Here’s my Gen 2 slide on my G45 frame. Function checks fine, all I did was swap the backplate. There’s a gap at the front, but that’s what the Strike Industries filler is for. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now if you said a Gen 5 slide would be incompatible with a Gen 2 or Gen 3 frame, you'd be 100% correct, the gap you see in my last picture shows why that wouldn't work (there’s no gap between the barrel and slide, that’s just a shadow). ______________________________________________ Endeavoring to master the art of the grapefruit spoon.

Come on. Glock isn't going to do that. A third generation frame is called for in this instance, and nothing else.

Totally agreed.

Glock was the new kid on the block way back when. They didn't have the established reputation of S&W, Colt, Beretta or even SIG-Sauer, which was still a relative newcomer. Glock had to get their foot in the door. I think the spare nature of their first reception area had to do with the fact that most of their visitors at that time were law enforcement personnel. Glock did not expect to get much in the way of consumer visits, but Smyrna is a city which is essentially part of Atlants, and even back in the late 1980s, Atlanta, with all the suburbs, had a population of 2.5 million. That figure now stands at 6.3 million, so there are lots and lots of Glock owners within easy driving distance of the Smyrna facility. My experience in visiting Glock is that there is usually a Glock owner just finishing up before me when I arrive, or someone arriving shortly after me. There have been a couple of times I had the place to myself. I believe Glock will continue with this tradition at the facility because it is a reflection of their desire to serve their customers, not just law enforcement agencies. It would be easy for them to just say "Send it in" but they are proud of their well-deserved reputation.

This is how I imagine her desk would be set up, with her hand on the grip until the visitor's intentions are clear. ![]()

You also want to get there by about 2:30pm because they close at 4pm. That way the armorer has time to do the paperwork and take care of you.
