I bought a used P226 with a 357SIG barrel and later added a 40S&W barrel. I'm thinking of adding a Bar-Sto 9mm conversion barrel. To do so I must indicate whether my gun came as a 357 or 40 originally. Is there a difference? If so, how do I confirm the original configuration ? Only in the front sight height (possibly). They are otherwise the same. ► 6.0/94.0 I can tell at sight a Chassepot rifle from a javelin.

Do you have the original box? I am unaware of any difference in the pistols other than the barrel and the front sight. I believe that 9mm and .357 Sig pistols typically use #8 front sights and #8 rear sights, while .40 S&W Sig pistols typically use #6 front sights and #8 rear sights. Take a peek at the left side of the front sight with some strong cheaters (or young eyes if you are lucky enough) and see what number is stamped there. While not conclusive, it is a hint. I kinda doubt that they are going to make the conversion barrel differently based on what sights came on the slide, but I’ve been wrong before...
