Thinking about adding a HK to my wonder 9 line up. Stipulations: 1) must be an HK 2) must be 9mm 3) must be DA/SA V3. (I can easily convert a USP for example) Might consider some quality trigger work by a qualified smith in the future. I have owned many HKs and they are one of my favorite brands. Time to get back in the game. I do have a omega 9k (destined for my APC9) in jail so I could consider USP9 Tactical. But I might get little other use out of it. I could get a p30sk or P2000 to work in to my carry rotation with the P225A1 I could get the P30 because it just awesome do it all fun. I could get a USP or USPc because they are classics and most people think they have the best stock triggers. (I love the Colon Noir USP9 video! And just watched “The gentleman” which has a USPc in it) This is the family it will be joining, and I tend to be a little bit of a trigger snob.

I recently bought a USP 9. It replaced several P30’s. The feel of the gun and trigger is better for me. I really don’t think it’s a wonderful trigger. Especially if comparing to my old Smith and Wesson N frames. But dang I can shoot the USP well. I agree with enjoying CN’s video. It did help push me to getting the USP. I almost went with the compact but something about the full-size just fit me better

I owned a p30 9mm for many years, sold it a while back. Currently own a P2000 in 9mm, I would say, in my experience, p2000 has the better trigger.

I have a P30 that I sent to Grayguns for the Reduced Reset Carry Package. It's not the best trigger on earth but noticeably better than stock P30 trigger ------------------------------------------------------ Though we choose between reality and madness It's either sadness or euphoria

HK45 has a much better trigger than the P30, esp in SA. DA is marginally better. For all HK does well, triggers aren't their strong suit on any pistol, except possibly the VP9 compared to other striker designs (Walther PPQ still is the best out of the box). For DA/SA the fake German term "Krunchen Tikker" applies.

What 12131 says, for an HK out of the box my vote is for the Expert.

For out of the box it will be the Expert . Or buy the factory match trigger kit and put it in a regular USP .

Agreed, but as an owner of multiple Walter PPQs, Steyr (M9/L9/C9) has a better trigger.

What 12131 said. You can’t do much with the double action pull. Grayguns trigger reset shortens the reset and really “smooths” out the trigger pull. If you have to have an HK - get a P7.

Or just get a VP70 and everything HK you shoot after that will seem mint. seriously. I own every example and the match triggers are better, but not great. For a trigger snob HK is not your best option. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

I’d say get the Expert. I’ve read that the 9 tactical doesn’t have the match trigger. So you’d have to install one. But a 9 tac may be next on my list. Is V3 decock without safety? P220ST P226/9 556 X5L1/9

Depending on model v3 is DA/SA and can be with or without safety. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

The single action trigger is fine on most HK's. The double action first pull is atrocious. LEM fixes that. If it must be DA/SA, out of the box, it's going to be gritty in the initial double action pull.

Just an FYI, the P30 has been discontinued. I had one on order with my LGS since December and they just told me last month that HK notified them it is no longer available. and every one of them words rang true and glowed like burnin’ coal. |
I have a USP and USPc. Both are pretty awesome, but the DA triggers on both are not exactly what I could consider “the best”. The SA triggers are great, on the other hand. While I don’t own one, I got the opportunity to play with a P2000 and THAT had a really good DA trigger. The SA trigger was also great. I was so impressed that it’s next on my list to buy. If you get a chance to check one out, I think you’ll be impressed.

The Great Equalizer |
The 9MM full size USP 9 with the threaded barrel, is not a Tactical. . . . . HK calls it the USP9SD. It does not have the match trigger that is in the Tectical, Expert, Match and Elite pistols. Though it can be upgraded That being said, my vote is for the USP9SD. In mine I installed the Jet Funnel and use the longer 18 round magazines. It just seamed the way to go for the one that I have my can on. Sorry I do not have it photographed ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . Interesting. We met with our rep a week ago Monday and he told us no such thing. He just said that they were "unavailable". Meanwhile they keep sending us SP5s. As for the best overall DA/SA trigger I like the USP Expert. Conversely the DA on the last couple of USP Tacticals we've had through the shop weren't particularly good. I've never owned or sampled the Elite so I can't say anything about that model. Of the "base" level models I like the HK45's trigger the best but I've not been particularly impressed by the durability of its materials and finish. -MG
