Not a field strip story but... One day I noticed the magazine safety lever on my then-new Ruger MkIII Target was just barely interfering with the magazine. All I needed to do was remove it and dress off a tiny bit at the very tip most part where it contacted the mag. This would allow the magazine to smoothly eject versus a stiff, tight removal. While I managed to successfully accomplish the mod and all went well, it was a bear getting that little part to sit where it belongs while I maneuvered a pin in position along with its other part. Took a good part of an hour.

I don't get it, I never thought the Ruger's were difficult. The M&P is dead simple. I think some people just aren't good at stuff. At all. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

Mauser C96. Hard to believe how much machining and hand fitting had to be done with these. I don't know whether they improved the mechanism for Han Solo's blaster.

Ive never had to do more than a field strip to my 1903 or any of my ruger MKIIs. Never had an issue. Reassembling a browning buckmark slide, far more difficult IMO.

I'd add the Hi-Point. First time I tried several years back it stumped me. I had to watch a YT video to learn how; it wasn't intuitively obvious to me. Required a hammer with a punch to pound out a roll pin, mostly because the rubber mallet that I started with wasn't moving the pin much at all. Setting the gun on top of an armorer's block or a roll of masking tape helps as well. Once that pin was free, the slide comes off much like any other blowback pistol. But the bugger was figuring out that a roll pin removal was the key to getting the gun disassembly started.

Have to agree with MagnumU: the Mauser C96 broomhandle is right at the top of the list. Side-drifting a little: I would put the Nylon 66 at the head of the rifle class. . “Leave the Artillerymen alone, they are an obstinate lot. . .” – Napoleon Bonaparte http://poundsstudio.com/

The Sig P290RS....ah, that little imp of a pistol. I've had mine customized somewhat for cosmetic reasons, added better sights and springs for useful reasons, but there's not much you can do to make field stripping it easy.... ________________________________________ "Just A Wild Eyed Texan On a Manhunt For The World's Most Perfect Chili Dog...."

As mentioned numerous times my Ruger Mark II is the most difficult to disassemble. I did find a YouTube video years ago that explains and shows in great detail how to break it down. Without that I was a little lost and so was the previous owner of my Mark II who marred up the gun a little trying to break it down. I can’t remember the last time I cleaned it though. You can definitely shoot a couple thousand rounds through it before it starts to give you problems. HA!

I have no trouble field stripping my Ruger MKII Competition, all that is needed is a paper clip. Reassembly is a little tricky, but once you have done it a few times it is very easy, you just have to remember when to elevate muzzle, then when to lower muzzle during the process. Read the manual, it isn't that difficult. ____________________________ NRA Life Member, Annual Member GOA, MGO Annual Member

Back in the mid 1990s, my second handgun was going to be a S&W 4013 Tactical. Picked it out, paid for it, but before I left the LGS I asked them to show me how to field strip it. They couldn't get the slide off, ended up beating it with a rubber mallet. I asked if I could exchange it for the Nickel P229 I was also looking at. Since it was more money for them, they said SURE..
