Newbie here, thanks for the add.
I just acquired a 1980's P226 and noticed markings under the front of the barrel on the frame that I have not seen before. The markings follow fore to aft and has what looks like a scorpion? then a owl's head, then a letter 'N' and the last is the letters 'JF'. Can someone decipher these for me please.
Thanks in advance.
I need to read on hoe to post pictures.

JF is the date proof code. Which is 1985.

Date Proof Letters

A - 0
B - 1
C - 2
D - 3
E - 4
F - 5
G - 6
H - 7
J - 8 (SIG started using the letter “I” in 2018 on their non-P210 guns)
K - 9

What looks like a “scorpion” is the symbol of the Kiel proof house in Germany. Each proof house has their unique symbol. For example, the Ulm proof house’s symbol resembles the antler. HK uses Ulm to proof their guns. The eagle-over-N is proof (pun intended) that the gun has passed the Nitro powder proof test as required by law.

The “JF” is as noted above.

Welcome. Mine was a JJ which prompted me to find Sig Forum and ask of its markings, back in 2008. They are a fine pistol. Soon, you can ask of its stamped slide vs today's bar stock machined stainless steel slides. And other great questions will come for you to ask about. You've come to the right place.

WRT posting pics, you have to use an outside source. I use postimages.org. You upload to that site then click the share option and select either thumbnail for forum or hot link for forum.

Come back here and post into the thread. When you press post now it’ll show up
