I didn’t think I would like this pistol, but after handling one last week, I found out I was dead wrong. The gun feels awesome in hand and the balance is perfect. The firing pin safety that Staccato added for this model does not seem to have a negative impact on trigger pull. Unlike Staccato 2011’s with their plastic triggers, the HD’s trigger is metal. Another bonus.

Quality is very high and I think the gun looks great. The forward placement of the rear sight is odd, but I understand why they did it. The sight picture is fine anyway, even with irons. The Mec-gar Glock magazines are also very nice, which is par for the course for them. The one I handled was the 4.0 model and it had the glossy DLC finished barrel. It’s a really nice looking pistol.

One thing I wasn’t wrong about is that it feels a lot different than a Staccato 2011. That’s in a good way. While I love 2011’s, this gun’s slimmer grip felt better and more secure in my hands. It also has a pinned grip safety, which Staccato 2011’s do not.

Price for the DLC barrel model was $2700, which I feel is a good value after seeing the quality of it.

I may pick one up soon. Anybody have one or an opinion? Thanks

My opinion is that they are striving to get back the deluxe duty gun market that reports of "not drop safe" and "finicky magazines" had hurt.

Yes and yes. Although the finicky 2011 magazine is really a thing of the past. It’s more the expensive 2011 magazine.

The P320 kind of bought the whole drop safe criteria into the limelight, even though the 1911 has always been like this.

The price keeps me away this time.
But, the balance is a beautiful feel.

Are you getting pinched at all near the beavertail or safeties?

I'm on the fence about getting one.

I haven’t shot one yet, but I notice nothing that would indicate that at all.

I want to hold one before I spend the money. They’re offering $800 off to active LE. But I'm tired of buying guns without holding them first. I didn't like any of my previous Staccatos other than the new C.

I'm very intrigued by this model, though I have zero use for one so chances of buying one are pretty low. But it's a great idea the "same" (or similar) package as the 2011, without the weak link, which is the magazines. Yes, there have been some improvements in recent years. But it always amazed me being around USPSA, watching people spend $2k-$7k on a pistol, then having to spend $100-$140 on ONE magazine, only to then watch them send those magazines to another person to tune them so they'd work right. Oof. Eek

Full sized auto pistols aren't something I have much use for. And they're a tad too expensive to just "throw it on the pile" as Monty Burns would say. Wink But if I were starting over from scratch I might consider it. Or if someone wants to sell me one dirt cheap. Big Grin

I have thought about it and my LGS has a couple so I have had a chance to handle one but I prefer my C2 and if I were to add another Staccato, I think I would go with a CS.

I find the sight placement weird, don’t care much about the magazine pricing (I don’t own any glocks or Glock magazines) and the grip safety has never bothered me on my C2 or any of my 1911s so from my POV, the HD is really aimed at the LEO market and since I’m just a private citizen, it’s arguably a bit worse than the regular Staccatos.

At the moment, the 4.0 doesn't interest me at all as a gun. I love the concept, but with very few of the accessories being ready and things like the "no optic plate required but does need a $75 spacer plate" BS has me at a firm no for now.

I'll wait for future models to come out.

I don't think this is quite right. They have been receiving requests for Glock mag compatibility, no grip safety, fully ambi controls, etc. for some time.

Well if you're going to appeal to the sensibilities of the vast number of unwashed masses (like me) who own oodles of those silly 9mm Glock magazines, not having a silly grip safety to deal with is a step in the right direction. It's one of several reasons why I opted to buy my WC EDC X9 over a Staccato.

I like that 'Cato has joined the fray chasing after Glock owners. Now if they could only do something about that outdated 1911 grip angle and do it proper like a REAL Glock. Big Grin

Oh and I wish they would work on shortening that name of theirs. Is it one 'c' or two? First world irritants. There was nothing wrong with 'STI' in my mind; no one was going to confuse them with a damn Subaru.
