It's been several years since I've owned a revolver. I stumbled on this one on my local classifieds with a fair price and figured why not. I always thought the ruger sp101 were attractive but never realized how nice they were until I got my hands on this one. It's a pleasure to shoot and now that I threw some leather together it carries pretty comfortably too. [IMG:left] [IMG:top] [/IMG]This message has been edited. I was able to get one in .327 when they first came out.
It has been flawless out of the box and I don't think you'll ever be disappointed (unless you run out of ammo).

Very nice. A long time ago I was trained on revolvers but all purchases since have been autos. If I were so inclined, that's the purchase I would make.

Wife and oldest daughter are both fans of the SP101 also, their preference was 3" w/ improved sights though.
Had a gent from another forum smooth and polish the action on all our Ruger revolvers. Much improved from factory, a couple of these SP101 had very stiff OEM pulls.

Both of the blued 3" were factory, I believe the top one was a limited run commissioned by Lipseys and the bottom one - according to the sale listing - was property of a Ruger factory foreman who built if for himself before retiring.
Bottom one grips are Hogue and the small parts are gold plated. BBQ territory.

They look good! I'll have to take a look at the Hoge grips. While I like that the factory rubber grips absorb recoil, they are a bit small for my large hands and clothing snags on the rubber.
Very nice. The SP101 is a great gun. Small enough for practical carry but big enough to comfortably handle magnums. I always liked the look of the 4"...mine was a 3" and it's one of the few guns I've traded off that I miss.

Same here, I have a GP100 Match Champion w/ factory wood Hogue grips that work really well for me, obviously its a larger gun tho.
The wood Hogue on the SP101 fill my hand much better than the factory rubber ones.

Congrats on your SP101. Have had mine for approx 15 years. The S/O thinks it is hers as she shoots it very well with some 38s. It is my woods gun due to being small with some punch. Big cats are the only worry here. We do have black bears, seen more in my yard than in the woods.

Great, tough little revolvers! I have a a 3 & 1/16 inch stainless .357, with gunsmith installed XS front sight bead and badger wood grips. I am very fond of that revolver.
I am hoping to add a 2 & 1/4 inch .38 Special later this year as a CCW. I can shoot my Winchester Ranger + P loads without worry in that little tank.
OP - that is a nice carry rig you have for your 4 inch SP-101.
Soflaac- Those purple grips are sweet and I am secure enough in my manhood to be envious !

I had one of the very early .38spl only guns in the 90's, purchased and carried as an off duty gun. Traded it off long ago, not sure why..probably needed the money in those years.
About 5 years back, a local store was blowing out its entire sporting goods and firearms section and had a wicked "can't come up with a reason not to" buy price on guns. I brought the 4.2" .357mag home and found it's earned a spot as one of the go to favorites! Handled the hot stuff very well, especially for feeling so small compared to the 4" L frame Smiths. Sure, it's only 5 instead of 6 but it's easy to carry, very accurate, feels great, durable as a tank and when I'm plinking cans, the .38spl loads seem like powderpuffs.
Great gun in my opinion.

Nice, rock solid little revolvers IMHO. I only have one, a 3" 9mm. It has digested all manner of 9mm ammunition without issue. No plans to trade it in on the next shiny thing that comes along
