I recently picked up a Sig 226 X-5 Legion. It is, without a doubt, the best shooting and feeling handgun I have ever put my hands on. I never thought I would say that about a non-1911. Everything about this gun just screams "fire away".

My wife and I ran over 500rds in our first session. I variety of everything from cheap blazer to top end Underwood and all of it ran flawlessly. Including some Buffalo Bore "Outdoorsman" which is a hard cast flat nose. It all ran flawlessly.

The ports and weight absolutely make it shoot flat. In my opinion is shoots better than the Staccato XC or XL that I had. The ergonomics are also amazing, the gun just feels perfect. I had average sized hands (wear a large glove) and have found 2011s to have too large a grip for me to shoot well. Not so with this Sig, it almost feels like the gun is holding onto you not the other way around. Also, the trigger guard is checkered front and bottom.

It also fit all my Sig 226 (railed) holsters which is convenient. The safety is very positive and feels just like a well fit 1911 safety. The gas pedal takedown pin works great and the mag release is quite large and easy to engage.

I added a Trijicon RMR and the newer Sig Xray rear sight. It comes with an adjustible, tritium rear sight btw.

I hope they make a carry sized version at some point.

Can't go wrong with a P226!

I bought a Stainless X-5 like two weeks before the Legion was announced. Maybe I'll have have both...

I have the Classic as well and like it a lot but the Legion is superior IMHO

The grips are thinner and more "grippy" for one. The mag release is larger and more aggressive. The ports work extremely well and with the added weight of a full size 226, it is incredibly.flat to shoot. The undercut feels like it is deeper on the Legion over the Classic as well. Do not mistake me, I really like my classic and will keep it but the Legion handles better for me

What is interesting is that the P226 X5 Legion actually has a 4.4” barrel on it rather than a 5” barrel…..

Just like their P365 X Macro Comp, with the original short barrel and the full length XL slide. I think it's just dumb. Should have named it X-Short, because it sure ain't X5.

Which part is dumb, the slide ports that do work and reduce flip, or calling it an X5?

Out of my price range... but I did break down and buy a used P226 Legion in Single Action Only last year...(I doubt more than a hundred rounds had been put though it.... was less than a year old) I'm a DA/SA shooter but this pistol is far superior to any 1911 I've shot... (I know and I apologize the to he old school guys)

In my opinion the while 'Legion" marketing is just way too much... but with that fully obvious to me their line of P226 Legions are top of the line pistols and so I bought into it with my eyes open.

I agree the whole "Legion" thing is a bit over done but they surely got it right with the X-Five version. My 229 Legion is pretty sweet as well

Dont Know if i hate Cerakote but it is the reason why i have not stepped to the window and bought a Legion.

I discovered today that the mags between the legion and classic are not the same. The Classic mags fit the legion but not flush the legion mags (with +2) are too short to fit the classic magwell

Was all set on getting 226X5-9-STAS with black grips. Then I discovered that some places are running a sale whereby P226 X5 Legion actually comes out $100-200 cheaper.

I do like the X5 Legion a lot on paper, but I have several concerns.

The good.
I like the Legion 30 degree crown with built in compensator. Trigger appears to be same but flat. Grips are bit thinner than G10 on X5

The bad.
Not a huge fan of ceracote. Also, finish looks more green than gray in most pics I've seen. Regular X5 is all stainless steel, Legion has allow frame. I would prefer all SS. Legion grips are not G10 and appear to be some new Sig proprietary plastic polymer. Regular X5 is a custom shop gun and comes with a fancy box+swag. Legion is a production(?) gun and comes with just the typical crap you get with a base Sig. If true, it doesn't make sense to me that Legion a more expensive gun is somehow less than a regular X5.

That's about all I have... but it seems to be enough for a bit of analysis-paralysis.

What do you guys think?

An all steel gun is going to shoot (and carry, but I assume that's not your goal) very differently from an alloy-framed gun. If your application favors a heavy, full-steel gun I'd absolutely spend the extra $200 to get that one.

Carry is not a concern. This is strictly a range toy for me.

According to Sig, weight difference from all stainless X5 to alloy frame X5 is only 4 oz.

Not sure if that's enough to pull any sway one way or another.

I guess what I really like is the comp on the Legion and the rest not so much. Probably not enough for me to get the Legion... Im thinking.

WOW! I don’t know how they pulled that off. I’ve never weighed my P226 X5 Allaround to compare it to any of my other P226s, but that thing is a brick by comparison. Finely machined, smooth as glass, but heavy, very heavy next to an alloy P226.
