I'm wanting everyone's opinion on the best Sig Sauer 9mm to keep, shoot, and pass down to my grandkid(s) thirty years from now. When I try and search I find best ccw sig, best high end, combat ect. I don't necessarily want one t9 carry everyday, unless that model is the best one overall. I would prefer something around the $1200 or less range. My favorite platform is 1911 and I have a Sig along with several others. Looking to expand my 9mm collection so my preference is Stainless Steel but everything Sid that's stainless is $2200 and up, I haven't convinced myself to pay that much for a single weapon. So what in your opinions is the best Sig in 9mm for the price, would prefer great feeling trigger, very accurate, feels great in your hand, that sort of thing. If the $2200 ones are the very best let me know I may eventually get there, we'll see. Thanks in advance.

If you like the 1911 platform, maybe a P938?. I like mine anyway.

Whew, a lot to dissect here. First, welcome. Second, to your questions. "keep, shoot, and pass down" could easily be 3 different pistols. Best CCW is likely a P365, with all things being subjective of course. However this would be one of the least qualified options to pass down. Stainless Sigs are generally less than $2k. And while those would NOT make the best concealed carry choices, they would likely make good examples of items to pass down. I'd look at P365 or P320 for concealed carry options. Conversely, I would look at discontinued Classic P-Series Sigs to keep and pass down, P225, P228, etc. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Best is so very subjective. Without knowing exactly what is critical for you, I’ll venture a P226 X-5 Legion. It’s going to have the special trigger, it’s SAO, it’s got all the bells and whistles. But it’s not what I would consider a carry pistol. Even that’s pretty subjective. Ultimately, what’s most significant about an “heirloom” pistol isn’t necessarily being the “best” but rather what was used when memories were made. Hell, that may be a .22 plinking rifle. ------------------------------------------------ Charter member of the vast, right-wing conspiracy

My suggestion is the P210, given your 1911 experience. Or a P225 Classic. Not the 225A1. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

For 9mm, I'd be looking for a P226. Yes the full stainless ones are a bit of $$$ but to me it's the quintessential Sig 9mm. Sometimes, you gotta roll the hard six

You should be able to find a used P226 ELITE SSE for that, I did

I'd say a P226/P228/P229 as far as parts available/cheap magazines and just overall good pistols. Runner up for P224/P225(A1 as well)/P227/P229-1/P230/P232/P239/P245 (with most the runners up not being real German designed and made SIGs besides the P225(P6)/P230/P232 I wouldn't consider P238/P938/P320's/P365 something to "hand down" and consider as a real Classic SIGThis message has been edited. 3° that never cooled |
I've owned a bunch of SIGs, but everyone's "best" might be different. How about one of the P226 MK25s? Has the anchor on the slide, a US military connection, etc. Haven't kept track, but I'd guess the MK25 is within your desired price range. Another I might suggest would be the American made P210A, but prices have recently gone up on these. NRA Life

My suggestion, find friend or friends that owns SIGs and ask to shoot theirs. Offer to buy them lunch and let them tell you all about their SIGs. Figure out which one you like the best. Since you indicated that you want something that can be handed down preferably, but where experiencing sticker shock, you might want to look at/for a used P226 or P229 Elite. I saw a 226 elite on gunbroker for around $1600. There was a 229 for 1200, but it was .40 S&W (still a good gun). I recommend the 226 and it's smaller brother 229 as it's the stereotypical SIG to most Americans. While I drool over the 210, the 225 is lovely, and I'll never give up my 239, the 226 looks the most SIG.

I will start by admitting I am a P226 guy… it’s like God himself ordered Sig to create a gun that was made for me. That out of the way, lots of great thoughts above so my contribution is a little different. Sig has been producing the “P” series since the 1980s. I own many Sigs, in particular a dozen or so P226 versions. From the latest US version X5 (most accurate), to an early X5 (most valuable), one of my top favorites is a plain old 1984 P226 (1984 was a marker in my life). 2006 was another marker year in my life so I found a Blackwater P226 born in 2006 (same as my Grandson). Both of these special to me guns were <$1,000 but they will remain in my collection to the very end. So something you can do is let a particular year help guide your selection… year you got married, had your first child, etc… and then spend the time to locate something born in that year. Not only will you enjoy the hunt, you will in all likelihood invest significantly less than you would on the absolutely gorgeous and addictive all stainless versions of Sig in any model. My 2-cents, worth about half that Dave _________________________ Those that say it can’t be done should not interrupt the people doing it!!!

My other Sig is a Steyr. |
welcome to the forum! Another vote for the P226. It has the most variety of the lineup and can be customized to the way you'd want it. The P210 can be crazy accurate right out of the box. The P220 is like the P226, but you can swap the barrel and magazine to make it a .38 Super. The P938 is great for carry. Let us know what you decide.

Whatever you buy, the grandkids won't want it unless they remember shooting it... with you. === I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

My vote is for the P226 Legion for a 9mm caliber. Really like that one, and very accurate out of the box. The P320 AXG Legion is pretty nice too, but I really like the P226 a bit better.
