I finally got my Stoeger STR-9 today. I won’t get a chance to shoot it for 2 weeks due to my travel schedule. My initial impression is the gun is better than expected. I paid $199-$50 rebate. $210 all in with shipping and FFL fee. It feels like a solid gun. The magazine is made in Italy but looks like my 3rd generation S&W .9 mags. It’s metal and well built. The loader is very thin and cheap. It came in a cardboard box. It also came with a hard plastic holster. I have no opinion on the holster at this point other than I would not pay for it. Gun is heavier than my HK VP9 but not too heavy. I have not oiled it yet but the slide is harder to rack than my other semi autos. Honestly, I’m impressed with it. I never thought a descent gun could be purchased at this price. If it shoots reasonably well it will be an awesome buy. It’s not going to diminish my love for Sig and HKs but definitely worthy. If I could figure out how to upload pics I would.

You’re going to like it. It’s a solid buy, particularly for the price. --------------------------- My hovercraft is full of eels.

A number of our guys got them as rewards for "pimping" them when we got in the initial batches from Benelli. I chose to abstain from that 'program' (I despise Stoeger's shoddy Turkish history making shotguns) and of course caught a rash of crap from the rep. But I got to try one at the range after the fact, and I have to admit that it seems to be a pretty decent pistol. Then again it probably should be, considering it clones so many of the key parts off of a Glock. -MG

Yeah it's basically a Gen 3 Glock internally. With better ergos and looks and trigger. --------------------------- My hovercraft is full of eels.

I finally got to the range with the new Stoeger today. I put about 200 rounds through it and 200 through my HK VP9. Some thoughts: The grips are a little thinner than my med ones on the HK. Not as comfy but just fine. I was surprised at how good it felt to shoot. Very smooth with comparable kickback. I like the mags better than my HK mags as they are easier to load by hand. No tool needed. I expected this as they are the same on my Gen 3 S&Ws. I was not as accurate with it as my HK. Like all guns it’s more accurate than me. I think the rear sights just need some getting used to as I got better as I progressed. Overall I think my HK is a bit nicer and smoother but this gun really surprised me. I got it new for $150 and I would put it up there with any Glock or equivalently priced weapon. It does not feel like a cheap gun in any way. Let’s see how it does after a few thousand rounds though. I’m going to need a few spare mags now as it came with only 1.
