I am a gun guy's gun guy so to speak. I have said it many times. I am fairly agnostic in my approach to shooting and firearms. I don't get hung up on caliber or platform or dots or no dots etc. As long as its safe and reliable its in my wheelhouse.

The downside to the above is, like many of us, I am always chasing or looking to try new tools, concepts, gear etc. While I don't feel that this is an inherently bad thing there is only so much money, time and ammo to spread around.

Lately I've been tinkering with the thin stack and half's and playing around with dots and what not. So basically putting money, time and ammo into new things/concepts.

With the above said, I do however, rely on simple old school DA/SA HK handguns for my primary defensive guns for carry and at the homestead, specifically P2000's and P30s, that are predominantly iron sighted.

Today I realized how long its been since I had one of those old obsolescent guns Roll Eyes out so I grabbed a P2000 today and headed off to the range.

Man, like an old pair of shoes that just gets more and more comfortable those little HK's just do it for me. They point naturally, feel good and are very comfortable to carry. They are my old pair of shoes and today once again proved to me why I just keep coming back.

Is the P2000/P30 series the best gun? Absolutely not. Would I recommend a non optics ready DA/SA to new folks getting into shooting? Hell no. Do they work for me and will they continue to be the guardians of me and mine? Emphatically YES.

So find YOUR "old shoes" and make sure you spend little time now and them with them. Big Grin

Same.

Seems be it either a P220 from the '80s or an old 2011, I seem to always go back to the same ones.

Was that target at 3 yards???

Good shooting. This may seem like a trivial reason for not liking handguns but I can’t do overly curved HK triggers or flat trigger guards like Glock and HK. Always pitches the skin on my fingers somehow.

Hey that’s 9, NINE!!! Whole feet!! Razz

Honestly, IMO, it’s small things like the trigger shape that ARE some of the best reasons to gravitate towards or away from a given platform. I can shoot flat triggers fine, but I don’t like them. I prefer a nice curve.

I agree. As a gun hobbyist as well as a serious practitioner, it's hard to find the balance of finances and time to spend on each. If it was purely all about practical performance, I'd own one gun and spend everything else on ammo. Clearly, that's not what I do, lol. But I buy all the other stuff because I enjoy it and want to experience it, not because I think it will make me better.

I have a very similar relationship to my P229 as you do to your P2000. Sometimes the old reliable just works. I had it out last week and it was flawless. Yes, it's definitely on the "tool" side of my collection, but it's a really good one!

That’s exactly why my Gen 4 Glock 26 is still here: low tech, low drag, and it still works great.

We have the same taste my friend. I’m fickle as well and always seem to be chasing the new hotness in the gun world. When the dust settles I usually revert to my P2000 and P30k.

Already had a P2000 (and my P2000sk for carry), but couldn't pass up on a used P30 online for very reasonable. Man, that thing fits my hand great, even better than the P2000 which I already liked.

That’s how I am with my P229s, everything I need, nothing I don’t. They definitely appeal to me, I have four, all in 9mm.

I know what you mean. Not a lot of people shoot the DA/SA Sigs well, but I do. And another one I keep going back to is the P320. I just shoot it well and I shoot it best with the Sig lower frame.

It’s good range ammo. I’ve never had any real issues with it. I mean it’s nothing to write home about, doesn’t feel hot or underpowered and functions fine in everything I’ve run it through (except a bad magazine I was having issues with).

I am not too picky with my range fodder with the exception of the fact that I don’t care for steel or aluminum cased stuff. I mean steel is fine in a good old commie gun of course Smile but for my “western world” stuff I just don’t care for it.

I've been busy of late and my little brother picked me up to go to the range last week and while we put a ton of ammo down range, I kept an obsolete P239 in .40 IWB for the duration until home again. You just never know now days. I rarely carry it since going more double wide and plasticky.

My carry gun choices haven’t changed much in 20+ years. I have always been a not broke don’t fix it sort of guy, and my carry guns consist of a couple J frames, a glock 26 and 19. My only “ newer gun” is a ruger LCPII that replaced a seecamp 32. The lack of sights, specialized ammo requirements got to be a bit much.
I am not sold on dots ( once my eyes go I might and I know that day will come )
Just about everything else I have is an old classic

I’m down to my last P2000 and P2000SK both chambered in 9mm having sold off multiple P2000s and a P2000Sk all chambered in 357 Sig. In my 30+ years of CCW the P2000 and P2000SK took up more time than any other lasting for more than a decade. The two I have left were both worked on by Gray Guns and I shoot them extremely well.

Sold my HK P2000 357 sig about 5 years ago. I regret that to this day.

I pretty much shoot 9mm Glocks and ARs. Outside of work, I have been shooting my G48 and 43x. Work is either G17 RMR or G47 with and ACRO.

Nice shooting. Is that a full size P2000 or an sk? Looks like an sk. I have on in .357 sig. I carry it almost daily.

Edit: I zoomed in. It’s a full size. Nice gun!
