I am a gun guy's gun guy so to speak. I have said it many times. I am fairly agnostic in my approach to shooting and firearms. I don't get hung up on caliber or platform or dots or no dots etc. As long as its safe and reliable its in my wheelhouse. The downside to the above is, like many of us, I am always chasing or looking to try new tools, concepts, gear etc. While I don't feel that this is an inherently bad thing there is only so much money, time and ammo to spread around. Lately I've been tinkering with the thin stack and half's and playing around with dots and what not. So basically putting money, time and ammo into new things/concepts. With the above said, I do however, rely on simple old school DA/SA HK handguns for my primary defensive guns for carry and at the homestead, specifically P2000's and P30s, that are predominantly iron sighted. Today I realized how long its been since I had one of those old obsolescent guns out so I grabbed a P2000 today and headed off to the range. Man, like an old pair of shoes that just gets more and more comfortable those little HK's just do it for me. They point naturally, feel good and are very comfortable to carry. They are my old pair of shoes and today once again proved to me why I just keep coming back. Is the P2000/P30 series the best gun? Absolutely not. Would I recommend a non optics ready DA/SA to new folks getting into shooting? Hell no. Do they work for me and will they continue to be the guardians of me and mine? Emphatically YES. So find YOUR "old shoes" and make sure you spend little time now and them with them. This message has been edited. Last edited by: cslinger, Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

Same. Seems be it either a P220 from the '80s or an old 2011, I seem to always go back to the same ones.

Was that target at 3 yards??? Good shooting. This may seem like a trivial reason for not liking handguns but I can’t do overly curved HK triggers or flat trigger guards like Glock and HK. Always pitches the skin on my fingers somehow. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Hey that’s 9, NINE!!! Whole feet!! Honestly, IMO, it’s small things like the trigger shape that ARE some of the best reasons to gravitate towards or away from a given platform. I can shoot flat triggers fine, but I don’t like them. I prefer a nice curve. Take Care, Shoot Safe, Chris

I agree. As a gun hobbyist as well as a serious practitioner, it's hard to find the balance of finances and time to spend on each. If it was purely all about practical performance, I'd own one gun and spend everything else on ammo. Clearly, that's not what I do, lol. But I buy all the other stuff because I enjoy it and want to experience it, not because I think it will make me better. I have a very similar relationship to my P229 as you do to your P2000. Sometimes the old reliable just works. I had it out last week and it was flawless. Yes, it's definitely on the "tool" side of my collection, but it's a really good one!

That’s exactly why my Gen 4 Glock 26 is still here: low tech, low drag, and it still works great.
