I know it’s been done to death but sitting here with my G19, G17 and G45 (all gen5) and the thought occurred to me which would I grab if had to fight, bug out, carry for the rest of my life... I really can’t decide. I know the 19 is ubiquitous but it would be nice to have a Little more sight radius, capacity and longer grip so maybe the 17. But it’s a little big so maybe the G45 but if I had to carry it around everyday maybe the 19. See where I’m going with this? So out of these three choices, what would be your go-to, do-all GLOCK? Of course after you vote, feel free to put your other choices in the comments. ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! Glock Certified Armorer NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

First vote for the 17 it would seem. The model 45 wouldn't have the pick of 'just one' and the 19 is the wrong amount of small.

Not sure what you mean, wrong amount of small, but then I don't have a lot of Glock experience yet. I bought my second 19 a couple months ago because I wanted to upgrade from Gen 3 to Gen 5, but circumstances have kept me to a minimum amount of range-time with either, and I have yet to take my 47MOS out. In my case, even the 19 is a bit large for concealment, but I'm trying hard to make it work because, I suspect like you, I sure don't want to have to carry anything smaller. I voted for the 19. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

I can always make a 19 bigger. Newer 17 slides have a 19 sized recoil spring, and I can put higher capacity magazine in it and lengthen the grip. I can't shrink the grip on a 17 or 45 without cutting down the grip.

Voted 19 but EDC a 48. Light and flat. I am good with 10 rounds. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

GLock Store is selling +2 kits for about $10 each, eliminating the need for sleeves to use G17 mags in a G19. I think one of the SS Agents in the Trump pile-on picture had a +2 on his gun. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

While I've owned a half dozen of them, not a Glock guy. But I could see myself owning a 48. Feels better in my hand than the 19 and holds the same amount of rounds as the 19 in my ban state.

Seems what whomever the 19 is for, their hands are a different size than mine. Funny thing is, I can shoot a P238, Walther, or similar sized pistol with no problems. A Desert Eagle doesn't make for a good carry piece.

Why didn't you include the G26 as a choice? There are a lot G26 fans on SF.

I just got back from the range with the Gen 5, and it was a painful reminder that the Glock is an awkward design. I used to shoot my Colt Mk4/Series70 for a couple hours with no discomfort whatsoever, today about 50 rounds and I quit, in part because it is awkward. Still, the fact remains that in today's environment, it's hard to beat a Glock for it's virtues -- reliability, carry weight, capacity, etc. I can deal with the rest, still stand by my vote for the G-19, especially the Gen 5. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Fighting the good fight |
G19 all day, every day. There's nothing the G17 or G45 can do that the G19 cannot. And while you can use higher capacity mags in the G19 you cannot make the G17/G45 grip any shorter for times when you want to carry them concealed. There's a reason that the Glock 19 has been the top of the list for "one handgun to do it all" for decades.
The G17's negligible additional 0.47" of sight radius will have zero effect on your practical accuracy.

Do all? None of the above. It's not going to be a 9mm. But between only these three...it's a pick 'em as far as I'm concerned. The G19 is easier to carry but I shoot the full size gripped 9s better, particularly in Gen5 form. -MG

I mean TECHNICALLY a G27 is the best do it all Glock. Can be made into 9mm/40/.357 SIG, can run mags from 9 rounds to 33 rounds, can disappear as a carry gun from ankle to waist yet could pull HD duty as well. I voted for the G45 because I like its balance and shootability the best but TECHNICALLY a G27 checks a lot of the DO ALL boxes so to speak. They are nasty little .40s to shoot thought. Glock 19 for me, big fan of this gun (have now owned 32 of them over the years, Gen 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s). Currently down to two, both are WCV Gen 5 19s. They will most likely see me through the rest of my time on this rock. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tomorrow's battle is won during today's practice.

I voted 19 but my real answer is 26. I can do everything possible with a larger gun with my 26, it gives up nothing in reliability to the larger guns, and gives me more concealment options if carried ( big pocket, ankle) not realistic with the bigger guns. I for whatever reason even shoot the 26 more accurately than the larger guns - and I am not alone there. If forced to own only one 9mm it would be a 26

If I were stuck on those three it would be the 45, but after owning a 365 legion I sold all my Glocks, just no comparison between the two.

Good post, and the ones previous for the 26. It's a special gun. Rule #1 of gun fighting: Have a gun. Glock 26 makes a concerted effort to fulfill that requirement while behaving convincingly like a service pistol. I voted G19 tho bc it's the perfect all-around (non-chopped) pistol overall.
