I had to come back in a brag on the P227 a bit. I really like this thing!
First let me apologize for the terrible photo. I think I have a finger smudge on the lens, but you will get the jist of the post. Smile Anyway I put the first 20 rounds thru the P227 today from 7 yard line. I thought it was pretty good for first time out. The P227 is a pleasure to shoot and because of the wide grip compared to a 1911 felt recoil is mild. If you get a chance to shoot one you will love it. The new Trijicon sights are awesome, no problem seeing that neon green front sight. It has quickly become my favorite .45.

It's a great gun, but I think the main problems were the 14 round mags weren't 100% reliable and it was made about 20 years too late. If this was out in the early 00's, I would have bought one over a USP 45 no matter how awesome Tom Cruise was in "Collateral."

I agree. Even more so, in 1999 it would have been a game changer. Yeah, I know cultists of the ugly big black block will scream "But ours holds more rounds!", which is true. But it's also true that particular pistol has the ergonomics of a jar of pickles, it's like trying aim a pineapple. Also, looking down the slide when shooting, one feels like a Hellcat pilot trying to land on the USS Bunker Hill off the coast of Okinawa... it's just freaking huge.

In terms of quality, fit, finish and ergos the P227 runs absolute rings around Gee21, it's just a shame Sig didn't get it out when it would've been far more relevant.
Still though, I don't feel like 11 (10+1) rounds is in any way 'undergunned'. Even with the Carry or SAS and one extra mag, I think it's a very formidable fighting pistol when loaded appropriately.

I love my P227, its a nice gun overall, short extractor, 10 round magazines work well of course and for a .45.

I think it was just not at the right time if the P227 with 10 rounders had come out during the AWB it could have had a following perhaps.

In addition if Mec-Gar had been able to produce a reliable 14 round magazine that would have helped as well technical issues never help gun sales.

I love Mec-Gar, and I think maybe no one could have back then IDK.

The slide is identical to a 220 slide. You can swap the two. So you see the same picture when shooting a 220.

The big gripe has always been the "only 2 additional rounds". Two rounds is a lot, when you consider a 220 holds 8. The 14 round mags have had feeding reliability issues, but people have put in Para Ordinance mag springs and solved that. Sig could have done the same but didn't.

I have a regular 227 with a green laser PL-8 (I think that's the model) under it as my nightstand weapon. I have an SAS which is purely for fun. I find I just don't shoot double stack guns as well as single stacks, so I carry a 220 SAS mostly. No extended mags, but I do have a 4-mag carrier on one of my shoulder rigs. Wish Gray Guns made a set of grips for them. I like the colour and fit. Have them on my 220 and 229. Plan on putting a set on my 226.

I would also remind people that you only get 2 extra rounds, but the grip is the same size as a P226. If Glock could make a G21 the same size as a G17 without the lame .45 GAP, I'd be far more impressed. For the magazine issue, I'm surprised MecGar didn't add the stronger mag spring in at the factory since they made mags for both the P227 and the Para Ordnance double stacks.

I have the 220 SAS version because I am a SAO guy.
With 230 grn. HST load and 8+1, good to go
Very accurate platform, Uber reliable.
In a VM2 holster, it’s lovely.

I hear people say this, but I couldn't get my hands around a P227, yet have no problem with a P226.

Width is the same, but the P227 will be a little longer front to back due to .45 being a longer cartridge. It wasn't until I got into 2011s that I found a double stack .45 that felt better than the P227.

If sig would make a 227 that was the same dimensions as the new 226 SAO x-five, they would sell truckloads of them

I know this has probably been beaten to death but finally shot my 227 and it was great didn't find the recoil bad at all was a little more then my 226 but very nice and accurate. Very Happy to have it in the Sig family
